Lead Content Designer, Social Studies

The Lead Content Designer, Social Studies reports to the Sr. Manager, ELA/SS and works closely with other Content Designers, Learning Designers, Assessment Designers, Creative Designers, and Project Managers in a collaborative team. The position is responsible for taking the lead on all social studies content development projects, at times straddling roles between Content Design and Learning Design in deference to the candidate’s specialized subject-matter expertise. Daily activities include writing, reviewing, and revising new content (revisions, updates) for Edmentum’s programs, and collaborating to create prototypes, guidelines, and processes designed to establish and maintain quality. The primary focus of the position is on being part of a team designed to build towards a level of content and learning quality that will fuel Edmentum’s growth trajectory for the future, including leading teams executing social studies projects. A successful candidate will balance a high level of subject matter expertise with pedagogical understanding, market knowledge, educator empathy, leadership competencies, and communication skills.

Here's what you'll do:

  • Along with Learning Design, bear responsibility for creating, reviewing, and vetting social studies scope & sequences, implementing expert review guidelines, and keeping abreast of changes in the educational social studies market.
  • Write, review, and revise content (lessons, practice items, worksheets, assessment items) for Edmentum’s programs based on pedagogical understanding and subject matter expertise with close attention to prototypes, guidelines, scope & sequence rigor, and quality processes.
  • Review the work of social studies Content Designers, contractors, and development houses against department quality measures, raising the quality through mentoring feedback.
  • With the Sr. Manager, Content Design, create processes and structures for systematic continuous improvement of social studies content.
  • Demonstrate an expertise in using Edmentum’s bespoke development tools, such as the EAP authoring system, with an eye toward efficiencies and increasing levels of productivity.
  • Mentor more junior team members in development practices, tools, and understanding of quality development practices, by modeling a growth mindset and developing the same in others.
  • Display a growth mindset with regard to processes, procedures, agile development, and continuous improvement as well as an understanding of larger systems that impact individual development practices.
  • Collaborate with Creative by reviewing layouts, images, animations, and text typography against standards for excellence in visual-verbal learning.
  • Understand standards and atomic elements of standards in order to create and evaluate the rigor of Edmentum’s curricular assets.
  • Grow a knowledge of common writing and copyediting conventions that reflect Edmentum style.
  • Collaborate with Learning Design and Assessment Design in creating scope and sequences, prototypes, and guidelines, following best practices for agile development and rapid prototyping models, as directed.
  • Using a trunk-branch-leaf model, understand decisions appropriate to the position and consult with more experienced others in bubbling up higher-level decisions, constantly growing personal comfort with an expanding decision-making sphere.
  • Understand the big picture of programs and projects in terms of market, schedule, and cost parameters to enable sound decision-making practices.
  • Seek opportunities to grow in understanding how business decisions are made and how the needs of the business intersect with product development practices.
  • Grow subject matter expertise in ELA, as opportunities arise.
  • Attend to personal professional development through professional reading and training opportunities.
  • Additional duties as assigned

Here's what you'll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Education; master’s degree preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in education and/or curriculum development
  • Strong Subject Matter Expertise in social studies
  • Demonstrated leadership skills that support mentoring and delegation practices
  • In-depth understanding of pedagogical practices in elementary and/or secondary education
  • Exceptional writing, editing, communication, collaboration, leadership, and presentation skills
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Strong creative and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent research, Internet, and technical skills
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills

For CO Residents: minimum salary of $77,400.00. The actual pay may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience.
