La Cima Elementary Charter School is a K-5 school in the beautifully diverse, and historic Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn, New York. The mission of La Cima Elementary Charter School is to prepare our students for academic and life-long success through a rigorous and relevant academic program. A place where students develop the intellectual capacity, social capital and emotional strength of character to be personally successful and to act as effective change-makers in their communities. To this end, La Cima is looking to fill a few immediately available teaching openings.

OPPORTUNITY

La Cima seeks mission-driven, Special Education Teacher Support Services (SETSS) who possesses high expectations for children and the willingness to engage in deep reflection and growth. RESPONSIBILITIES

Key responsibilities of a SETSS teacher at La Cima include:

  • Communicating consistently with families, scholars, and colleagues
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with scholars, families, and colleagues
  • Maintaining confidentiality with scholar information and records
  • Preparing and delivering daily instruction in accordance with Individualized Education
  • Using ongoing assessments of scholars’ learning abilities to drive daily instruction
  • Implementing individualized programming to meet scholars’ unique IEPs during small group instruction
  • Possessing emotional openness to constructive feedback from colleagues
  • Supporting teachers in writing and revising high-quality IEPs
  • Providing push-in and/or pull-out services that are appropriately designed to meet IEP goals

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, ideal SETSS candidates will bring:

  • Master’s Degree in Special Education or related field
  • NYS Teaching Certification in K-12 Special Education or Students with Disabilities Grades 1-6
  • Two or more years of work experience in elementary education
  • Passion for social justice and educational equality
  • Ability to collaborate with all staff to provide evidenced-based supports to a diverse range of children
  • Excellent data management and organizational skills
  • SESIS experience is preferred, but not required
  • Specific curricular knowledge is preferred, but not required: Levelled Literacy Intervention, Wilson’s Fundations, Success For All, TERC Math Investigations, Cognitively Guided Instruction
