ABOUT KIPP OKLAHOMA

KIPP Oklahoma City (KIPP OKC) and KIPP Tulsa have taken their first steps to merge, forming KIPP Oklahoma (KIPP OK). Starting in July 2022, KIPP OK will be a network of 4 high-performing, college-preparatory public charter schools providing an academically rigorous and joyous school experience to more than 1,000+ students in grades 4 through 12 across OKC and Tulsa. Additionally, KIPP OK will support alumni on their journey to and through high school, college, and career.

KIPP OKC College Prep was founded in 2002. Since then, it has flourished into one of the top academic performing schools in Oklahoma. KIPP OKC College Prep educates children in grades 4th - 8th and specializes in high-rigor academics with a focus on social emotional learning.

Founded in 2005, KIPP Tulsa started with a single class of fifth graders. Today, KIPP Tulsa Public Charter Schools offers a continuous college-prep education for students from 5th through 12th grade.

OPPORTUNITY

KIPP OK’s COO is an experienced manager and leader with a high bar for excellence who will build and manage operations functions critical to the KIPP Oklahoma merger and the region’s success, including data, finance, facilities, data, technology, compliance, risk management, school operations and resource allocation. The COO leads the work to define and deliver on services provided to KIPP OK schools so that leaders, teachers, students, and families achieve transformational outcomes. A key member of the state-wide leadership team and reporting to the ED, the COO will directly manage a regional Data Manager, three Campus Directors of Operations, and outsource partners including an accounting firm.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Set Operations Vision and Accountability Structures:

  • Support the development of the KIPP OK organizational vision, and establish an aligned operational vision, strategy, and goals as well as budgets and long-term financial plans aligned to the strategy
  • Ensure operational excellence and alignment at the school and regional levels and take ultimate responsibility for operational performance and outcomes across the region
  • Oversee the development of a strong region-wide change management plan to achieve this vision including metrics, indicators, and key initiatives that align to the broader regional strategic plan
  • Ensure that schools are maximizing all public revenue sources

Enhance Equitable Systems and Processes:

  • Contribute to the organizational vision for equity and drive the vision and strategy for equity through all operational and financial functions, including dismantling operational and financial systems that are inequitable, racist, or biased
  • In partnership with the Chief of Staff, develop organization-wide systems to collect input, analyze data on equity (both qualitative and quantitative), and monitor/report on progress

Provide Financial Management:

  • Oversee core financial functions, including budgeting, accounting, capital planning, business planning, and reporting
  • Oversee monthly and quarterly reporting processes culminating in a clean annual audit
  • Work with the ED and Board to align short- and long-term resources and financial planning to organizational strategy and vision

Ensure Compliance & Grant Management:

  • Ensure compliance systems, staffing, tools, policies, and procedures are in place for annual and charter cycles such that KIPP Oklahoma fully complies with federal, state, and local legal and regulatory requirements with no misses that damage student and staff welfare, financials, ability to operate and grow, or reputation
  • Oversee the management of KIPP OK’s federal and state grants to ensure grants are secured, allocated, budgeted, tracked, and in compliance

Oversee Regional Operations, Data and Technology:

  • Lead, manage, and develop regional operations staff and in coordination with school leaders and school operations staff statewide
  • Oversee and lead technology implementation, legal affairs, and risk management
  • Oversee and support the data strategy for planning and implementation (data infrastructure, analytics, and reporting), and data governance required for KIPP Oklahoma to achieve its educational goals

Ensure School and Student Health and Safety:

  • In partnership with principals, school teams, directors of operations, Chief Academic Officer and other key staff, ensure physical infrastructure, policies, training, oversight, and accountability to ensure the safety of all students at KIPP OK, and all property and other assets
  • Assess ongoing risk and lead regional response to any crisis relating to student and staff health and safety

Maintain Facilities:

  • Partner with schools districts while integrating mission, finance, development, and facility perspectives
  • Support the directors of operations in providing facilities and maintenance management to ensure school buildings are clean, well maintained, safe, secure, and meeting educational needs

Provide Local and Network Leadership:

  • Participate in and contribute to the KIPP national network and local charter network of talent, strategy, and leadership staff, accessing and sharing learning and support with peers in other organizations

YEAR 1 PRIORITIES

  • Found, build, and lead the state-wide Finance & Operations team
  • Establish and create a statewide infrastructure for finances
  • Develop a framework for statewide student recruitment and enrollment
  • Work closely with the Executive Director on school and enrollment-related rebranding and community engagement

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of professional experience with 3+ years of progressively increasing team management experience in two or more of the following areas: finance, data, operations, facilities, IT, safety and security; preferably in a school system that has a focus on closing the student opportunity gap between racial, ethnic and economic groups
  • Bachelor’s degree required & advanced degree preferred
  • An integrated systems builder with the ability to both build and scale standard practices across multiple schools or sites
  • Demonstrated leadership in organizational planning and execution with the ability to create a vision, develop a plan, marshal resources, and execute on objectives utilizing a proactive and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Experience leading, planning, and managing in a nimble, client-oriented setting.
  • Excellent relationship builder with demonstrated experience managing diverse stakeholders, leading and managing change, and promoting strong collaboration across teams in service of the relentless pursuit of improvement and driving results through collective achievement
  • Exceptional organizational skills, particularly in developing and implementing multi-year plans.
  • Adept at thinking strategically, translating plans into action, and exhibiting excellent judgment.
  • A hands-on approach to administrative functions and experience creating and implementing top-notch systems, operations, and processes
  • Ability to be flexible, multi-task and adapt to changing priorities
  • Experience as a people manager who can motivate, mentor, and build a high-performing team

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The starting salary for this position is $113k and may be negotiated depending upon experience. Employee benefits include medical, dental, and a paid time-off package.
