KIPP OKC-Tulsa - Multiple Locations - Full time

KIPP currently has two regions in Oklahoma: KIPP Oklahoma City (KIPP OKC) and KIPP Tulsa. These two regions have the intention of coming together into one single organization over the next couple of years, under the leadership of a single Executive Director and Board. KIPP OKC opened in 2002 and currently serves 455 students in grades 4th-8th grade. An elementary campus will open in OKC in the fall of 2022. KIPP Tulsa opened in 2005 and currently serves 600 students in grades 5th-11th grade and will add 12th grade next school year.

OPPORTUNITY

The Chief Academic Officer will be the first ever senior academic leader for KIPP’s combined region in Oklahoma and will work to set a unified vision and strategy for successfully delivering a uniform instructional model across KIPP OKC/Tulsa schools. This is a unique opportunity to design a comprehensive instructional model focused on KIPP OKC/KIPP Tulsa’s vision of achieving breakthrough student results and promoting a culture focused on excellent teaching and learning while ensuring equity for all students. This individual will support principals in building a school culture that values joy and rigor, that prioritizes observation and feedback, that drives lessons with data, and results in exceptional achievement gains for children. A member of the region’s leadership team, the Chief Academic Officer will also work to ensure KIPP OKC/KIPP Tulsa is committed to developing and retaining highly effective academic talent.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities of the Chief Academic Officer include:

Academic Vision and Systems

  • Develop implementation of the KIPP OKC/Tulsa instructional model and all of its enabling systems, ensuring that it is implemented to achieve desired student outcomes for all students, particularly in EL and EC.
  • Establish academic and character vision and goals for schools, taking ultimate responsibility for academic alignment at all levels, ensuring instructional quality and academic performance across the region.
  • Help set organizational standards of excellence in instructional performance and articulate standards for both instructional and non-instructional staff.
  • Establish and promote a clear vision of educational equity as a guiding principle across all schools, and ensure it is reflected in curriculum, instruction, and program offerings.
  • Set the vision for the instructional staff professional development program and ensure that professional development for instructional staff supports implementation of the KIPP OKC/KIPP Tulsa instructional model.
  • Provide ongoing measurement and improvement of teaching and learning.

Principal Managerial Leadership and Team Development

  • Manage, evaluate, and develop School Principals, offering support in school management, including planning, staff hiring and retention, culture, curriculum and assessments, instruction, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure clear performance evaluations systems for instructional staff, including clear performance frameworks, timely evaluations and accessible data.
  • Work in collaboration with the Executive Director to hire principals who embody the mission and beliefs of KIPP OKC/Tulsa.

Regional Leadership

  • Partner with the Executive Director to ensure the entire organization is leading for learning (e.g. regional office departments keep schools and students in mind as they are making decisions).
  • Support the merger of KIPP OKC and KIPP Tulsa by building strong relationships and coalitions across each KIPP region for the purpose of developing a shared academic vision that reflects both the common and unique needs of our students.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Chief Academic Officer candidate will have:

  • A deep commitment to the mission of KIPP OKC/Tulsa and an unwavering belief in the potential of all our students.
  • 10+ years of work experience, including 5+ years of experience as a high-performing principal and/or principal manager, with experience closing the student achievement gaps between racial, ethnic, and economic groups (experience as a principal manager or principal advisor strongly preferred).
  • An unwavering commitment to anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion, with an ability to serve as an exemplar for the organization’s values and foster an inclusive and respectful workplace.
  • A strong desire to collaborate with school leaders and regional teammates in service to a new KIPP region growing out of two exceptionally strong ones.
  • Deep experience in the design, integration, implementation, and management of a school, including knowledge of curricula, instructional practices, school operations and management, and talent development.
  • The ability to analyze and use data on a regular basis to drive decision-making.
  • Expertise in instructional design and implementation, including curriculum and assessment.
  • A deep commitment to both racial equity and improving the lives of kids from low-income communities with experience working with diverse communities of color and in low-income communities.
  • An understanding of and willingness to work in both rural and urban communities, including exhibiting resourcefulness and willingness to travel up to three hours within Oklahoma multiple days per week as needed.
  • A track record of leading, motivating, and developing diverse and high performing teams.
  • Values rooted in high expectations, going above and beyond, and deep humility.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position offers a competitive salary range of $100,000 - $115,000 and robust benefits including medical, dental, and retirement. More details can be provided upon request.
