The KIPP Foundation’s Network Growth, Strategy and Sustainability Team (NGSST) expands KIPP’s impact by improving the growth and sustainability of all KIPP regions. The Executive Coach, Network Growth, Strategy, and Sustainability Team is a new role. The individual hired will be responsible for ensuring that new Executive Directors and their senior regional teams are highly effective in their first two years in the role. This position will report to the Chief Network Growth Officer and together they will prioritize which new Executive Directors to work with.

The Executive Coach will support and coach new regional Executive Directors in two main areas: 1) the development of a highly effective senior leadership team and 2) the creation and effective implementation of the region’s annual priorities. The Executive Coach will partner primarily with the Executive Director and at times, their senior regional leadership team to set the region’s and the Executive Director’s annual priorities and from there, the creation and implementation of a plan and performance goals to achieve the priorities. The ultimate objective is for new Executive Directors to achieve their annual performance goals and development goals so each KIPP region effectively executes their priorities to achieve increased student outcomes.


You will accomplish the following with the Executive Directors you work with:

  • Effective Annual Priority Plan Implementation – The region has an equitable and inclusive process to identify no more than 2-3 priorities each year. The region has a written process for creating an implementation to execute against those priorities. The region achieves the goals contained in the annual priority plan.
  • Capable Regional Team –Senior leadership team for all core functional areas is staffed and high performing. Each member receives feedback from the Executive Director to develop in their effectiveness each year.
  • Cadence of Accountability – Establish structures and systems for the Executive Director to implement use of their time efficiently, monitor progress and drive results (e.g. meetings with direct reports, executive team meetings, performance reviews, 360s, etc.)
  • Executive Director Succession Plan – Develop a board approved succession plan (emergency and long-term) in partnership with the Executive Director and Board Chair.


The Executive Coach, Network Growth, Strategy, and Sustainability Team’s primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Provide weekly executive-level coaching and development support for 3 to 5 KIPP Executive Directors and at times, their senior leadership team over a three-year engagement period
  • Conduct a data-driven assessment of leadership team effectiveness and culture of the organization, identifying strengths to leverage and areas to improve, then recommending a path for improvement
  • Determine what changes need to be made to the regional support team, including changes to roles and additions of staff, and establish a timeline for when those changes will be made
  • Design and participate in interviews for key regional leader and school leader hires as needed
  • Guide the executive director to design and lead change management to implement the desired changes that will improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the regional office
  • Ensure that Executive Directors are proficient in their understanding and oversight of all core KIPP functions including academic strategy, college placement and advising (e.g. KIPP through College), talent development, financial planning and oversight, operations, and development
  • Ensure that Executive Directors understand KIPP’s leadership competency model and the best practices for creating strong culture in the senior leadership team and throughout the region


The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Deep understanding of functions required to operate a charter management organization
  • Exemplary strategic-thinking, creativity and problem-solving ability in the face of ambiguity
  • Excels in stakeholder management and building relationships based on trust, respect and achievement of common goals
  • Demonstrates cultural competence by communicating and working effectively with those from diverse backgrounds and creating and sustaining an environment in which people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives can succeed
  • Experienced in change management in complex and dynamic environments
  • Confident working through impact and influence to motivate others to take action, as well as a willingness to directly engage in key pieces of work when needed
  • Achievement oriented; takes initiative, follows through on commitments, and delivers results


  • 10+ years of experience at the executive level in K-12 academics, operations and/or finance
  • Experience in people management and coaching senior leaders to results
  • Excellent strategic planning, project management and financial analysis skills
  • A willingness and ability to travel (+30%)
  • Ability and desire to model KIPP values at all times
  • This is a full-time, exempt role.
