As the Director, Network Recruitment and Talent Strategy, you will lead our strategy to build KIPP regions’ capacity to recruit, select, onboard, develop and retain excellent, anti-racist teachers and leaders by leading KIPP’s Recruitment Community which consists of 125+ recruiters across the country. Through your work with the Recruitment Community, you will partner closely with regions to create strong recruitment systems and practices and implement the research-backed practices outlined in the KIPP Recruitment Playbook. In addition, you will manage the Senior Manager, Talent & Recruitment Strategy. Through this management, you will co-develop a strategy for the KIPP Foundation to further support the development and retention of KIPP teachers.

The Director, Network Recruitment and Talent Strategy reports to the Senior Director, Regional Talent Systems. You will be a member of the Network Talent Team.


The Director, Network Recruitment and Talent Strategy's primary responsibilities will be to:

  • Strategy Development
    • In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Talent & Recruitment Strategy, continue our work to codify exemplary practices for recruitment and selection of teachers and leaders and capture learnings in the Recruitment Playbook
    • Iterate on the strategy to develop KIPP’s regional recruiters and recruitment team managers to ensure that all regions are 97% to hired by the last day of school
    • With the Senior Manager, Talent & Recruitment Strategy and a cross-team of teammates from across the KIPP Foundation and the KIPP Network, co-lead the research and design of a new strategy to significantly increase KIPP network-wide teacher retention (a new body of work for the KIPP Foundation)
  • Recruitment Community Support & Development
    • Partner with regions to build their recruitment systems and practices so that they create robust and equitable recruitment pipelines
    • Design and deliver highly-effective professional development sessions to the recruitment community on the recruitment power moves and proven best practices
    • Lead a virtual professional learning community of regional recruiters to track data and share network-wide lessons learned
    • Coach a portfolio of recruitment teams in KIPP regions throughout the recruitment season, providing feedback, training and guidance
    • Design and execute strategies to support KIPP regions in their implementation of best practices to improve KIPP teacher retention
  • Team Leadership
    • Manage the Senior Manager, Talent & Recruitment Strategy to ensure KIPP attracts, selects, develops and retains excellent, anti-racist teachers; with the Senior Manager, Talent & Recruitment Strategy, set the vision for KIPP Foundation’s role in supporting increased teacher retention across the network
    • With the Senior Director, Regional Talent Systems, support in leading the Network Talent Team to ensure cohesive execution of the team vision and collaboration across the team and the overall KIPP Foundation, including attendance at team meetings
    • Collaborate with all team members to continuously identify opportunities for improvement and increased efficiency in cross-team work in service of our regions; look across the KIPP Foundation to ensure coordination and cohesion of strategy


The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Examines the impact of his/her identities, biases, assumptions, and behaviors on his/her power and privilege, interactions with others, work and leadership in the organization; able to recognize, immediately respond, and consistently remedy interpersonal and systemic bias and inequities
  • Demonstrates expertise in talent recruitment, ideally and can make connections and integrate the talent practices (e.g. talent planning, talent development, talent operations/systems); ideally has experience as a manager of a recruitment team
  • Strategic thinker who can lead the development of strategy to improve talent practices across a dispersed network that centers equity and excellence; can diagnose root causes of pain points, solve complex problems and implement solutions; able to manage both the big picture and the details
  • Excellent relationship builder with demonstrated experience influencing diverse stakeholders, leading change, and promoting strong collaboration in service of the relentless pursuit of improvement and collective achievement; quickly establishes credibility with and influences senior leadership on major strategic questions
  • Able to consistently lead exemplary adult learning experiences that develop leaders in core skills necessary for success in their roles and can be applied immediately to current leaders’ challenges
  • Creates systems to manage projects effectively and balances competing priorities; able to anticipate and address risks; thrives in an entrepreneurial environment and comfortable operating in ambiguity
  • She/he/they will travel approximately 15% of the time. The location for this role is flexible to anywhere in the continental United States. We have offices in Chicago, New York, San Francisco and Washington D.C., but the role does not have to operate out of these offices. This is a full-time, exempt position.
