Khan Lab School Part-time Fellowship

Khan Lab School - Mountain View, California - Part time

Part-Time Teaching Fellowship 2019-20

 (Grades 6-12, IL5 to IL7)

Do you have a passion for math, physics, computer science, economics, biology or chemistry (or all of the above)? Did Khan Academy help you develop that passion? Would you love to share that passion with students by guiding them on their personalized learning adventures? Do you want to help re-imagine education in collaboration with other similarly passionate folks, including Sal Khan? If so, we would like to hear from you.

This is a minimum of a 10 hour per week role where you would need to be on-site at Khan Lab School (KLS) ideally 3 times per week from 8:45-10:45 am (potentially more hours if you feel comfortable in math and one of the sciences). Fellows must be able to commit to at least six months. KLS is within walking distance of the Mountain View, CA Caltrain station. We may also facilitate carpooling or other transportation to and from the Stanford campus.

As an integral member of the academic team, you will be facilitating breakout sessions, doing small-group interventions and working with the team to refine how we can best empower young people to take control over their own learning. You will also be helping students engage and master concepts using Khan Academy. You should feel equally comfortable guiding learners in intro college level subjects (e.g., calculus, statistics, physics, economics, or biology) as the late-elementary level. Ideally, you would have extensively used Khan Academy in the past for your own benefit. Showing that you have achieved mastery--on your personal Khan Academy account--on one or more of the following areas: calculus, statistics, economics, biology or physics would be even better.

About Khan Lab School

Khan Lab School is a non-profit, independent school associated with Khan Academy. Our purpose is to develop student-centered practices that demonstrate that when adults step back, children drive their learning and rise to the occasion with gusto. We believe that young people are capable of far more than society currently recognizes, and we create and assess learning experiences to share with the world. Many of the core principles and ideas to be developed and tested in our school are outlined in The One World Schoolhouse: Education Reimagined.

Our school currently serves 180 students ages 5-17. In keeping with The One World Schoolhouse philosophy, we provide an extended-year, extended-day, mixed-age program with a project-based learning approach. Recognizing that ownership and relationship are the keys to success in learning, our academic experience is coordinated by a team of teachers who also advise students and support them through increasing levels of autonomy.

Our teaching philosophy encourages meaningful inquiry and interdisciplinary work, and we utilize blended, self-paced learning to meet the needs of each student. Thanks to our association with Khan Academy, we are leveraging the power of technology to humanize the classroom.
