Internal Communications Manager

Location: Fully Remote within the USA

Job Overview:

Lexia Learning is looking for a highly motivated, self-starting internal communications leader to support our company wide communications, Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Belonging (DEIB) and corporate culture initiates. The Manager, Internal communications position is responsible for the framework, infrastructure and driving the content for the in-house corporate communications channel.

The Lexia Internal Communications Manager will report to the Sr. Manager, Strategic Communications and Brand, helping to establish internal protocols, plan, develop and implement the timely and ongoing sharing of critical information across the organization.

Job Responsibilities:

The Manager of Internal Communications will manage and distribute routine and critical information with key stakeholders, including the executive and senior management teams, HR, legal, IT, as well as all employees, and on occasion, the Cambium executive team, and our in-house consultants.

S/he/They will support programming for the intranet, uphold the organizational vision, values, mission and messaging and develop a measurable/repeatable frameworks and systems that facilitates the timely distribution of critical information companywide and within select stakeholder groups.

Develop and oversee internal communications, which includes but is not limited to:

  • Ensuring that changes and updates in policy or other company announcements are relayed in a timely and consistent manner
  • Coordinates with the strategic communications team and the external PR counselors on crisis communications protocols, implementation of the crisis playbook, and dissemination of information
  • Serves as editor/proofreader and content advisor for internal memos, reports, and forums for sharing companywide news such as new sales wins, addition of new employees monthly, major press releases, article postings, awards and other uplifting communiques while also providing recaps of town halls, and other companywide meetings as required
  • Supports the development, implementation, and management of Lexia’s intranet site content as the go-to source for all communications. Meets periodically with key department heads to gather key data and updates to share across the company
  • Conveys new marketing content, blogs, ads, videos, article placements, news releases and updates to style guides, policy manuals, new research, etc. with all employees to increase the awareness and use of current resources across the organization, and alerts the staff of key commemorations, and forthcoming trade shows, webinars, and other external industry news
  • Develops and distributes all-staff emails via the voice of the president and helps lead two all-staff town halls monthly, develops a robust internal communications strategy to instill company values and build a cohesive culture among staff while consistently keeping them informed
  • Assists in the development of scripts and messaging points for senior executives for ‘all hands’ meetings, and other company-wide events, reviews Q&As pre-meeting, and recommends responses, etc. Provides guidance on word choice, tone, and points of emphasis for clarity
  • Applies creative means to implement new communications channels such as employee-facing newsletters, video, blogs and other collateral as needed; works with designers to align with the Lexia brand guidelines and responds to management feedback in a timely manner
  • Shares monthly commemorations from DEIB and supports multicultural efforts, as appropriate; weighs in on companywide content to ensure continuity of messaging and to reinforce a consistent culture
  • Reports on ongoing happenings throughout the organization to ensure that the executive staff is apprised of major developments and key information is shared cross-functionally
  • And other related duties and roles as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • 7-10 years internal communications experience
  • B.A. or B.S. degree in public relations, journalism, English, business, or a related field
  • Tactical on-the-ground experience related to internal communications planning and implementation
  • Experience working with C-suite and senior executives’ teams in a remote environment
  • Ability to manage and build core relationships cross-functionally
  • Knowledge of corporate communications, internal branding, and/or executive communications with direct experience in internal communications and disseminating info through crises
  • A hands-on understanding of internal communications strategies, tools, and best practices
  • An ability to deliver info in the right forum with the right message and tone at the right time
  • Collaborative self-starter, with the ability to set and meet objectives against clearly defined metrics
  • Skills to participate as a key member of and contributor to the strategic communications/brand teams
  • Experience in change management protocols, and DEIB are highly desirable
  • Excellent writing, editing and proofreading skills as well as the journalistic ability to source stories from employees are required
  • Strong speaking skills and creativity may be called upon to give presentations in all-staff forums
  • Internal communications managers need sensitivity to an organization’s goals and values and the ability to relay them to employees
  • Must have good interpersonal and relationship-building skills to work with communications, HR, legal and IT departments
  • Must have the confidence to counsel leadership, recommend internal communication strategies, tactics, or new approaches and methodologies
  • Familiarity with information technology, especially digital and video means of communication, and enterprise-wide employee communications tools is essential
  • Attention to detail is a must-have capability
