About the Initiative

Digital Promise, with support from the Verizon Foundation and Verizon Wireless, is partnering with seventy-five U.S. middle schools across the country to create innovative learning environments and fully document the process so others can learn from their experiences. With a goal to close the digital learning gap at a diverse array of middle schools, this initiative will provide students with one-to-one access to mobile learning technology in the classroom and at home, educators with personalized professional development, and all participants with a national community of practice. The resulting stories, resources, and policies will be shared in real time on the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools website, creating a behind-the-scenes guidebook for supporting students and teachers with learning technologies.

About the Position

Digital Promise is seeking a part-time intern to support the Verizon Innovative Learning Schools (VILS) team in administration, technical support, and event planning. Interest in K-12 education preferred. The intern will work closely with the VILS Technical Project Director and Project Associate to provide support on a variety of tasks to support schools. This is a 1-year position and will be compensated through a monthly stipend. Work load will vary from week to week, but expected time commitment is 10-15 hours per week.

Responsibilities

Direct Support of Technology in VILS Districts (~50%)

  • Support district and school IT staff in resolving device incidents.
  • Track and analyze devices incidents through a ticketing system from initiation through resolution.
  • Assist technical project manager with other technology-related tasks as assigned.

Administration and Event Planning (~50%)

  • Assist in preparing briefing/meeting materials for VILS team.
  • Plan meetings, virtual convenings, and in-person events for VILS participants.
  • Work with external vendors and secure and manage vendor contracts.
  • Help manage project database and keep information up-to-date.

Candidate Requirements:

  • High school diploma required.
  • Interest in K-12 education.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage competing tasks, deadlines, requirements, and decisions.
  • Hungry, creative, self-starter, multi-tasker, team player; strong work ethic, high standards, integrity.
  • Positive “can-do,” “yes-and” spirit.

Compensation

This position will be compensated through a monthly $1000 stipend.
