About the Role

The Instructional Team at App Academy is responsible for delivering all technical content training to our students who are enrolled in the full time, in-person web development program.

The team consists of:

  1. Teaching Assistants (TAs) who are App Academy grads who choose to work at a/A post their graduation from the program. TAs are responsible for answering student questions, providing feedback on projects, and lecturing;
  2. Lead Instructors are experienced engineers who take primary responsibility for delivering lectures within the classroom. The Instructional Program Manager will utilize their training in teaching and management to train and manage the instructional staff (primarily the TAs) so as to improve instructional methodologies in our classrooms and ultimately enhance student outcomes.

This role reports directly to the Head of the Instructional Team (currently based in NYC) and will also have a dotted reporting line to the Director of Student Outcomes who oversees the entire student instructional experience from the technical instruction to the career placement curriculum.

Responsibilities

  • Observe current teaching methodologies at a/A and recommend practices based on educational research that improves instructional quality and student grasp of content in the classroom. Develop plan for implementation of recommended practices, train Instructional Team accordingly and monitor faithful implementation
  • Hire and onboard full-time Instructional Team
  • Develop and implement an onboarding plan for the Instructional Team. This should involve training on effective teaching strategies and processes to get up to speed on technical content and anything else that may be needed to make the TAs more effective in their day to day jobs
  • Manage and develop our full-time in-person Instructional Team to ensure the highest quality instruction and level of student satisfaction. This will involve conducting regular performance reviews, delivering feedback and monitoring performance on identified areas of development
  • Ensure all essential daily and weekly tasks within the Instructional Team are completed on time and run as efficiently as possible, e.g. project correction, assignment grading, office hours staffing, etc.
  • Develop a staffing plan and schedule for the 9 week duration of the instructional curriculum
  • Ensure effective utilization of resources within the Instructional Team. This includes monitoring and creating schedules for individual TAs
  • Coordinate the needs of the Instructional Team, and communicate them to relevant stakeholders at the company
  • Facilitate communication, information sharing, and collaboration across campuses and between teams

Experience and Qualifications

  • 4+ years experience in education, and/or instructional design or curriculum development
  • Experience working in the technology industry or edtech space
  • Experience working with software engineers
  • Strong leadership and communication skills
  • Proven success in cross-functional management, organization, and setting and exceeding targets
