Instructional Designer

LIM College - New York, New York or Remote - Full time

LIM College is currently seeking candidates for the position of Instructional Designer. 

This is hybrid position that is required to be in person a minimum of one day per week.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: 

LIM College educates students for success in the global business of fashion and its many related industries. Located in midtown Manhattan - the fashion capital of the world - and devoted exclusively to the study of business and fashion, LIM College fosters a unique connection between real-world experience and academic study in business principles. Undergraduate students may major in Fashion Media, Fashion Merchandising, International Business, Management, Marketing, Visual Studies, Business of Fashion or Business of Cannabis. At the graduate level, LIM College offers an MPS programs in Fashion Marketing, Fashion Merchandising & Retail Management, Global Fashion Supply Chain Management, and Consumer Analytics. 

The Instructional Designer (ID) will provide course design, development, and maintenance for online, hybrid, and face-to-face courses. The ID will provide technical support to various members of the LIM community including faculty, subject matter experts, and department chairs. The ID will apply learning science/ instructional design models and consult on instructional challenges encountered in the delivery of all teaching modalities. The ID will have a history of progressive technical experience, strong communication and interpersonal skills, and a broad fluency of educational and digital learning tools. The ID will be pivotal in ensuring academic excellence and a dynamic learning experience is achieved across face-to-face, hybrid, and fully online courses. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

Works closely with all faculty and other subject matter experts to design, develop, build, and support high-quality online, hybrid and face-to-face courses including revisions to courses that need them.

  • Collaborates on the development of SMART learning objectives and aligns them to assessments and learning experiences
  • Applies Universal Design (UDL), backwards design, learning theories, multimedia design, and best practices in online learning to enhance student learning experiences while complying with accessibility standards
  • Consults on the development of course outcomes and objectives, faculty-generated course materials, development of interactive courseware, multimedia assets, assignments and assessments
  • Creates and maintains tutorials and other online learning resources for faculty to support the integration and delivery of educational tools and applications, as well as effective online teaching practices
  • Develops and facilitates pedagogical workshops and technology training for faculty and staff.
  • Fosters community through additional projects such as the OLI newsletter, the OLI Website, MyLIM, and coordination with the OLI Faculty Liaisons.
  • Is able to manage multiple, simultaneous projects.
  • Provides regular status updates on projects
  • Keeps current with emerging online instructional technologies, pedagogies, and quality best practices

QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

Master’s Degree in Instructional/Educational Technology, Education, Psychology, Learning Science or the equivalent combination of education and comparable skills.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • SMART learning objectives and alignment
  • Instructional Design models (Backwards Design, ADDIE)
  • LMS such as Canvas
  • Basic adult learning theory and multimedia design principles
  • Basic video production and post-production using software such as Camtasia, iMovie.
  • VoiceThread or other interactive web-based video-recording tools
  • Video-conferencing tools such as ZOOM, Teams, etc.
  • Knowledge of best practices for supporting and/or integrating Universal Design for Learning, accessibility and Open Educational Resources

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • At least two years of professional experience working as an instructional designer within a higher education environment
  • Experience working closely with faculty in a higher education environment to design courses in online and hybrid formats
  • Experience designing courses within an LMS (Canvas preferable))

EXPERIENCE PREFERRED:

  • Teaching experience in a higher education environment, a strong grounding in instructional and pedagogical design, adult learning theory, evidence of successful project management
  • Certification in Quality Matters, OLC or other similar online course quality standards
  • Experience developing interactive course content utilizing digital creation tools such as Articulate Storyline and Rise 360.
  • Experience with HTML and CSS.

  • Strong analytical skills to process complex academic and real-life information and translate and integrate this information into effective, dynamic learning experiences
  • Ability to communicate clearly and thoughtfully with faculty
  • Ability to work seamlessly both independently and in a collaborative environment
