The EdPlus design + development group (EDD) is truly at the forefront of University initiatives aimed at promoting student access and success at scale. We do this by carefully defining the solution space, and rapidly designing and advancing key partnerships and delivery methods to meet student needs.

Working within this context, EdPlus at ASU is currently seeking an Instructional Designer Specialist to collaborate with faculty and other course development staff, to conceptualize, design, maintain, and revise technology delivered course content and related materials.

Essential Duties:

  • Orchestrates the design, development and delivery of online course content, materials, interactive and multimedia technology-driven components, and other support materials consistent with established design and development processes to ensure flexibility and reusability.
  • Builds course materials in technically demanding environments like Open edX or other emerging LMS systems.
  • Coordinates production of instructional materials with subject matter expert (SME), graphic artists and multimedia developers; consults with clients on course design projects.
  • Develops and disseminates course design standards to ensure all new or updated course masters comply with all existing design standards.
  • Develops course syllabus and storyboards including, but not limited to: sequence of instructional concepts, required media, tutorials and assignments.
  • Edits guides and other instructional materials for grammar, clarity, consistency and accuracy of content.
  • Provides consultation for faculty in educational design of online delivered curriculum; builds and maintains site for course deployment.
  • Develops and/or maintains online web-based resources such as tutorials, reference material, design standards, content resources, templates, and tools for instructional development.
  • Works collaboratively with developers; editing, reviewing and evaluating course content; assisting with embedding and formatting learning objects; and providing quality assurance testing for courses and post production work; adapts course materials for online delivery.
  • Applies adult learning theory with instructional design methodology while utilizing appropriate technology to develop and design courses.
  • Remains abreast of technology directions, initiatives and trends within scope of expertise to provide ideas, guidance and recommendations.
  • Assumes or coordinates other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Instructional Technology, or a related area.Three years instructional design; excellent editing, writing and communication skills; Blackboard or similar course management experience; project management experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in using content development tools and applications to effectively and efficiently produce desired results.
  • Experience working in edX/Coursera/Canvas LMS environment to develop online courses.
  • Experience in identifying opportunities for use of technology solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Experience in project management (e.g. managing time, establishing priorities, distributing responsibilities, meeting milestones and deliverables).
  • Experience in researching and resolving technology issues.
  • Evidence of effective organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Evidence of a Bachelor's degree (or higher) in a related field.
Working Environment:

Our offices are located in ASU SkySong, a dynamic center for innovation - home to both start-ups and Fortune 500 companies.

Activities are primarily performed in a regular, climate controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting or standing. Visual acuity and manual dexterity associated with daily use of desktop or laptop computer is required. Ability to clearly communicate verbally in English, read, write, see, and hear to perform essential duties. Regular review of completed tasks.
