POSITION SUMMARY:

The Learning Design Manager reports to the Director of Digital Curriculum and is responsible to drive the production of impactful, inventive, and engaging K12 content. The Learning Experience Design Manager will lead a team of Instructional Designers to successfully execute learning design and design technology in development of innovative, student-centered academic products. In addition, the Learning Design Manager will work collaboratively with the Product team to align development to key performance indicators.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, technology, or related field.
  • Seven (7) years in developing K12 content, required.
  • Five (5+) years’ experience managing/leading Instructional Design teams, required.
  • Teaching licensure/experience, preferred.
  • Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and oversee course development design strategies; recommend, implement, and administer methods and procedures to enhance learning design within development and redevelopment of online courses and interactivities
  • Manage, mentor and support the Instructional Design team.
  • Monitor and report on project status and operational output.
  • Drive and initiate opportunities for Instructional Design team growth, strategic direction, and project work in conjunction with the Director of Digital Curriculum.
  • Oversee and review course content during analysis, design, and development stages for sound pedagogical and learning design practices as measured by the Development and Curriculum Checklists; recommend improvements and revisions to course content.
  • Collaborate effectively and efficiently across functional product teams to define needs, determine project priorities, and identify the conditions under which tasks are performed to deliver easily adopted solutions that drive performance.
  • Analyze and execute clear, targeted project plans, effectively manage the work of cross-functional teams without direct authority to drive on-time, high quality deliverables.
  • Oversee the creation of engaging and outcomes-driven learning experiences by leveraging scalable instructional design methods, patterns, and frameworks.
  • Establish mechanisms to monitor and ensure the efficiency, accuracy and effectiveness of learning solutions on performance and learner experience.
  • Design and deliver training and advanced support to Curriculum Development Team members for curriculum design, online instructional design strategies, and technologies for the development of course content and assessments.
  • Research new and innovative learning design, technology practices and leading-edge delivery strategies to increase student engagement, adaptability, usability, and personalized learning.
  • Self-motivated; independent, organized and proactive; highly responsive, flexible, and adaptable when working across multiple product teams.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as necessary.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include decisions related to selection, performance appraisal, discipline and salary recommendations.
  • Build strong and empowered teams by providing direction, delegation, counsel, mentoring and expertise to individual team leads, while retaining overall responsibility and accountability for results.
  • Promote and encourage the development, training and promotion of staff members to ensure the perpetuation of a professional and competent workforce.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of curriculum design, instructional strategies, online instructional design theories, and learning style theories.
  • Strong Knowledge of state and national standards and meeting learning targets.
  • Strong knowledge of industry standard Web development technologies, including programs such as Articulate 360, Figma, graphics and editing programs.
  • Knowledge of learning management platforms and other Web delivery technologies.
  • Knowledge of section 508 compliance.
  • Knowledge of learning object design and SCORM.
  • Practical knowledge in implementation of copyright standards.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and leadership skills.
  • Ability to supervise, train, and develop employees, to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and handles diverse tasks simultaneously using prioritization and delegation.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent presentation skills.
