INTRODUCTION

The Inspark Teaching Network is a global team of educators working together to transform science education. We are looking for a Community Manager to help our team create professional development opportunities and other activities that grow our membership and help those members improve the way they teach their science courses.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Project manage and support all Community Building and Professional Development activities, coordinating with Inspark leadership and contributing members.
  2. Host a large, annual Inspark Community Conference, along with several smaller community events at other related conferences around the country (and possibly beyond).
  3. Host webinars, often professional development in nature (for example, a webinar on using active learning or exploration/enquiry-based curriculum as a teaching strategy to better motivate students and contextualize concepts).
  4. Facilitate an active discussion board, posting a regular stream of updates and questions.
  5. Developing newsletters and other updates to share ideas and success stories from members and others on teaching science.
  6. Identify and help incubate research opportunities, namely between research faculty and members trying new ideas or solutions in their courses.

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

Requirements:

  1. 2+ years of relevant experience in at least one of the following areas (preferably both):
    1. Teaching Sciences (preferably higher ed)
    2. Community Development
  2. Ability to lead and manage complex projects
  3. Willingness to do all the little admin things needed to make complex things work
  4. Excellent spoken and written communication skills
  5. Bachelor’s degree as a minimum (PhD or Masters in science or science education strongly preferred)

Preferences:

  1. Higher Ed experience (beyond just being a student)
  2. Professional development experience in college/university or K12
  3. Science outreach or communication experience
