Ingenuity Prep (IP) is seeking an exceptional senior instructional leader to serve as the organization’s next Chief Academic Officer (CAO). This individual must be able to manage, develop, and support principals and the Director of Student Support to get exceptional results for students across its three academies (Early Childhood, Elementary, and Middle School) within a single site school. The CAO will articulate an academic vision for excellence, especially what great teaching looks like and coaching leaders towards that vision. In addition, the CAO will drive and codify Ingenuity Prep’s academic vision ensuring alignment amongst its three academies while balancing each academy’s need for autonomy to best support their students. The CAO will also play a role in the development, evaluation and professional development of instructional staff, including building a leadership pipeline for IP’s instructional leaders.

The CAO will work closely with the CEO to articulate and refine IP’s academic program, build systems and processes that will support IP’s growth over time, continue to build out the civic leadership component of the IP model to ensure that IP’s students attain excellent academic outcomes while becoming even stronger civic leaders. The CAO will be managed by the CEO, Will Stoetzer.


Key Responsibilities of the Chief Academic Officer include:

  • In partnership with Ingenuity Prep’s CEO and the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, articulate and refine Ingenuity Prep’s Vision of Excellence for instruction and academic culture, and invest teachers and leaders in this vision.
  • Manage, grow, and retain a team of instructional leaders, including the three academy principals, the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Director of Student Support and content coaches.
  • Work closely with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction to drive curricular alignment amongst the three academies and oversee teacher development.
  • Identify the strategic steps needed to take in order to realize IP’s academic goals, including a careful analysis of the curricula and data tracking systems that will best support IP’s work.
  • Build systems and processes that will allow Ingenuity Prep to both serve students academically and grow to scale over the coming years.
  • Ensure that instructional leaders and teachers receive outstanding coaching and professional development that accelerates their own growth and the academic achievement of their students.
  • Serve on Ingenuity Prep’s Executive Team; help drive organizational strategic decisions that will ensure Ingenuity Prep is able to grow while still providing the highest quality education for students.
  • Ultimately, own the responsibility for ensuring that Ingenuity Prep’s students receive an outstanding education that prepares them to succeed in college and beyond as impactful civic leaders.


In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Chief Academic Officer candidate will have:

  • Academic and curriculum development expertise across the PreK – middle school years;
  • A track record of results in instructional leadership (principal experience in a high-performing charter network preferred);
  • A commitment to and leadership experience in leading diversity, equity and inclusion and antiracism efforts with students and staff;
  • Emotional intelligence; able to build relationships, establish trust, and work collaboratively;
  • Experience coaching and managing high performing adult learners to drive student achievement;
  • High level of confidence, able to seek input to inform decision-making and then stand by those decisions;
  • Data-driven approach to ensure academic alignment;
  • Commitment to Ingenuity Prep’s mission and to working with underserved students.


Ingenuity Prep offers among the strongest compensation and benefits packages of any public charter school in Washington, D.C. Their compensation and benefits package includes:

  • A salary range between 145K to 155K.
  • 100% of medical and dental premiums for employees paid for by Ingenuity Prep, along with 100% of dependent premiums.
  • 100% of employee’s short­ and long-term disability and life insurance plans paid for by Ingenuity Prep.
  • A minimum of two weeks maternity/paternity leave, up to 6 weeks, at 100% of pay (60% from IP and remaining pay from DC Paid Family Leave )for all staff — regardless of gender.
