Individual Giving Manager

Position Overview

The Individual Giving Manager plays a critical role in a high-achieving development department within a leading education organization with a Board of Directors made up of prominent business, civic and philanthropic leaders. KIPP Bay Area Schools is at a strategic turning point - to provide even more students with access to a high-quality education. We are looking for someone to oversee the research, cultivation, and stewardship of our individual donors through events, management of a small portfolio of individual donors, prospect research and Board support. This role requires very strong strategic and critical thinking skills, exceptional writing and communication skills, strong relationship-building and stakeholder management, meticulous attention to detail and accuracy, and excellent project management skills. Reporting to the Director of Development, the Individual Giving Manager works alongside the Foundation and Grants Manager and Development Associate, and partners closely with the Marketing and Communications team. This position is located at our Regional Support Office (RSO) in Oakland. Responsibilities include: Individual Donor Relationship Management and Communications

  • Manage cultivation, solicitations, and stewardship of individual donors, in partnership with Director of Development
  • Oversee moves management and tracking of donor activities.
  • Assist CEO and board members to prepare for donor meetings
  • Manage annual appeals process with individual donors, both in the fall and spring
  • Partner with Marketing Manager to create compelling communications for KIPP’s key foundation, institutional, and individual supporters
  • With support from Director, oversee and manage annual appeals (fall and spring).

Development Events

  • Participation in successful delivery of Annual Luncheon, Ping Pong Smackdown, and other major donor-focused events
  • Develop guest lists and manage donor prospect outreach and responses
  • Partner with Development team, Events and Communications Associate, board members, and key staff to deliver successful donor-facing events.
  • Prepare relevant program and materials to enable an excellent donor experience

Board relationships and management

  • Partner with Director of Development to prepare agendas for Campaign Advisory Council and Development Advisory Council
  • Manage board relationships, communications, and deliverables to ensure successful engagement and participation of individual board members in fundraising
  • Enlist board members in personalizing outreach and solicitations, especially for our annual luncheon, annual appeal, and Ping Pong Smackdown

Prospect research, preparation and follow-up

  • Develop deeper prospect pipeline for future donor cultivation
  • Produce accurate research and profiles on individual prospects
  • Prepare documents for Donor meetings including research, strategy, and appropriate materials.
  • Serve as thought partner in identifying strategic cultivation/stewardship opportunities


  • Have a Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Have 5 or more years of fundraising experience, including direct work with donors and/or volunteers, management preferred
  • Have excellent communication and writing skills
  • Are an experienced project manager, with excellent prioritization and ability to execute
  • Build, develop, and retain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Have unquestioned integrity and believe that all children can learn and achieve at high levels
  • Have the desire to work in a highly dynamic, entrepreneurial environment
  • Are a team player, skilled planner, and self-starter
  • Are proficient in Microsoft Office and Google applications
  • Have experience with Salesforce or other donor databases [preferred but not required]
