Humanities Curriculum Developer - New York - Full time

As a member of our curriculum development team, you will develop new English, social studies, and civics activities and instructional materials. To develop these activities, you will select passages, develop prompts, and write targeted feedback based on student responses. These pieces of feedback will then be used by our AI team to build algorithms that can automatically serve feedback for hundreds of thousands of students. In addition to authoring new activities, you will work with students and school-based staff to test new activities and provide support.

Since you will be creating non-fiction humanities activities, knowledge of building expository writing skills is essential. You should be comfortable assessing a wide range of student responses and generating helpful feedback for each response in student-friendly language. You should also be able to adapt your writing for various levels of reading fluency and English language development, while also considering age-appropriate content and tone.

== Responsibilities ==

- Writing, reviewing, and revising curriculum, lessons, assessments, and other projects aligned to Quill's curriculum framework and standards with and without basal materials 

- Developing new reading and writing activities for online delivery 

- Adhering to internal style guides when writing new content 

- Using error analysis techniques to identify precise areas of improvement for student writing 

- Evaluating and providing feedback on student writing 

- Working with students and teachers in the New York City region to design and test Quill 

- Supporting teachers by answering questions and collecting feedback

== Qualifications ==

- 2+ year of classroom teaching experience 

- Experience writing and creating humanities lessons in grades 5-12 

- Knowledge of national and state education standards in ELA and/or social studies 

- Knowledge of instructional design techniques for online learning 

- Experience working effectively as part of a team and independently

The most successful candidate will have some of the following skills and qualities:

- 4-6 years of exemplary classroom teaching experience 

- Experience with deep error analysis of student work 

- Knowledge of state-of-the-art educational strategies for teaching expository writing in grades 5-12 

- Strong editing/proofreading experience
