Human Resources Manager


Summit Public Schools is seeking a Human Resources Manager who will play an integral role in achieving the vision and mission of Summit Public Schools through excellent human resources customer service and support to our faculty.

This person will perform a wide variety of professional level human resources functions including managing the offer and onboarding process and human resources information system.

This person will have a strong customer service orientation that values each of our employees and believes this approach will ensure Summit employees can focus on what they do best to drive toward our collective vision for students and education.

This person also knows that no detail is too small when it comes to human resources and ensures all employee information is accurate.

This person will work directly with the Director of Human Resources.

What You'll Do:

Benefits Administration

  • Liaise with third party vendors (private and state) in the daily administration of employee benefit plans from open enrollment to COBRA elections; this includes claims resolution and communication about benefits to all employees
  • Collaborate with the Finance department to ensure employee benefit deductions are accurately reflected in payroll and reconcile where applicable
  • Assist the Human Resources Director with leave of absences and accommodations
  • Report, maintain and monitor all workers' compensation case files; follow up on open cases.
  • Conduct audits of payroll, benefits or other HR programs and recommend corrective action

Employee Engagement

  • Provide superior customer service through day-to-day support to employees, responding directly to employee questions via email, phone, in person and completing requests
  • Lead employee onboarding and offboarding efforts to include offer letters; verification of employment eligibility, training support and exit interviews
  • Partner with school leaders to manage faculty safety; this includes planning and executing site safety training, serving on the Summit safety committee and supporting safety inspections
  • Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance.
  • Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
  • Support the Human Resources Director in the development and implementation of anti-bias, anti-racist policies and practices throughout the organization

HRIS Administration and Personnel File Maintenance

  • Support management of human resource data and reporting; this includes ensuring HR data remain updated and accurate, providing HR information for internal and external stakeholders, partnering with school leaders to ensure HR compliance and completing local and state audits
  • Collaborate with Finance to manage various payroll systems and processes
  • Maintain and ensure employee personnel files are kept in compliance with HR best practices
  • Other related duties and projects as assigned.

What you need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field desired;
  • 3 - 4 years of previous experience in HR, preferably as a generalist;
  • Strong knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, and Social Security and DOL requirements;
  • Superb computer skills, including Google Docs, Google Sheets and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint); most importantly, an intermediate or advanced knowledge of Excel;
  • Ability to act with integrity, professionalism and confidentiality;
  • SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP or PHR/SPHR certification preferred;
  • Alternative Certificate/Diploma in Human Resources Management will be considered
  • Clear TB test and background check
