Head of Operations and Finance

Goalbook - Multiple Locations - Full time

Our Mission

Goalbook’s mission is to empower teachers to transform instruction so that ALL students can succeed. We are currently a team of 42 people, and we partner with 500 districts across 45 states, working closely with district and school leaders to improve instructional practice. Goalbook was founded in 2011 by Daniel Jhin Yoo and Justin Su. Goalbook was a member of YC Edtech’s first cohort and the first investment made in Reach Capital’s Seed Fund.

Who We’re Looking For

This role oversees the back-office functions of operations, finance, accounting, legal, facilities, IT, and compliance. You’ll collaborate with other teams and assist with people operations and sales operations. At its core, this role functions as the glue of the company, ensuring that every team member across the country is fully supported by the organization.

We’re not looking for an ordinary VP of Ops or VP of Finance. We’re not raising money or trying to get acquired. Rather, we are focused on building a sustainable long-term business that achieves long-term impact, and our company’ operations and finance will reflect these ideals. We are looking for an innovator to help lead this work.

The ideal candidate will have managed and scaled teams in a small company environment. While experience in K-12 education technology is desirable, we are open to people from other fields. You can grow a company while instilling and sustaining a culture where impact and responsible growth are core tenets of strategy.

This is not a typical leadership role. As a company, we have often sacrificed maximum growth in a deliberate effort to grow responsibly. We expect each manager to fully embrace our mindset around balancing impact, team culture, profitability, and growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute on a variety of operational tasks. Be the jack of all trades who figures things out when no one else is able to.
  • Establish and enforce consistent and equitable organizational policies. Build relationships of trust with managers across teams and collaborate to improve processes.
  • Manage a team of four, including operations, office management, and customer support.
  • Oversee finance and accounting, working with a third-party bookkeeper and tax accountants.
  • Negotiate vendor contracts on behalf of the company and maintain vendor relationships.
  • Forecast revenue, expenses, and cash flow and ensure fiscal responsibility across the organization.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Highly organized - you are obsessed with creating order and consistency
  • Skilled in writing clearly and succinctly
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and a doer - this is an extremely hands-on role
  • Deep operations experience in a startup environment
  • Knowledgeable, but not necessarily deep experience, in finance and accounting
  • Experienced as a manager and leader

  • 120-160k compensation range
  • Full medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • Safe Harbor 401k matching
  • Open vacation policy and flexible schedule
