Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Head of Instructional/Learning Design to lead the learning design team at Robo Wunderkind. We have a huge opportunity ahead of us to continue innovating at the intersection of robotics, coding, and education, to support our users in their learning journey, to expand to new use cases and customer segments, and to grow our user community. We would love to find the perfect person to help us get there. We are a team of 20 people, 10 nationalities, ambitious and passionate about what we are doing. We have a backing for our growth and we are looking to take our learning design to the next level. We are looking for team members who are ambitious, motivated, and have a track record of over-achieving and exceeding targets.

You’ll lead a team of learning designers and curriculum developers to create the future of playful education. You will play an important role in defining our product strategy and roadmap in collaboration with Product Management, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales. We are looking for a person that has a strong design viewpoint and is able to influence our product development direction.

What is our structure:

Product

  • Our core product is a modular robotics kit with new modules in the pipeline.
  • 3 programming interfaces within one app to program the robots built with the modular robotic kit
  • Content supporting learning in form of in-app project ideas and tutorials

Head of Instructional/Learning Design Functions:

  • Take ownership of the learning design at Robo Wunderkind and the development of the learning solutions and assessments to support the learning journey of our users
  • Lead the team of instructional designers and manage the design and development of learning solutions
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop a research-informed app for teaching coding that is fun, fast-paced, and emphasizes “learning by doing”
  • Ensure that the app features are well-grounded in learning science by translating research findings into concrete ideas that can be applied to the product requirements
  • Lead the development and implementation of efficient processes to scale the creation of educational content
  • Help communicate the science behind Robo Wunderkind teaching methodology to a wider audience
  • Ensure high-quality and effective content deliverables are met in line with company priorities and OKRs
  • Empower your team members to proactively lead iteration cycles with stakeholders and push the learning experience forward according to the product’s vision
  • Collaborate with your team stakeholders across the company to accomplish customer and business needs

Your key milestones for the first 180 days:

  • Evaluate feedback from Customer Discovery Interviews and UX research results and draw conclusions for the product roadmap.
  • Establish a roadmap for learning journey development with a focus on STEM learning in primary and middle school.

Your Skills:

  • You have 5+ years of experience in Instructional/Learning Design and 2+ years of experience leading an Instructional/Learning Design team.
  • You led a learning design development process for a product that has been launched in a number of countries.
  • Experience developing learning tools that creatively leverage new technologies.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of instructional design and educational technology best practices in the context of STEM education.
  • You are knowledgeable about learning experience research.
  • A great communicator (verbal, written, and visual) who has the ability to influence and build consensus both within a product team and with stakeholders across the company and push back on beliefs with integrity and respect.
  • You are familiar with standards for teaching Computing and can design curriculum that effectively scaffolds the learning experience for learners in different countries.
  • BA/BS and/or MA/MS in Computer Science, Instructional Design, Educational Technology, New Media, Education, or other related fields.
  • Experience with digital and/or physical products for children and experience with younger students' education (e.g., via research, teaching, or curriculum development) are a plus.

We are open to working remotely and our team spreads over 2 continents. Those working in Vienna have flexible work hours and can work from home up to 4 days per week.
