What You'll Do:The Global Curriculum Director plays a key role in the development of curriculum to further advance Discovery Education curriculum and content goals. The Director will be responsible for applying internationally-benchmarked curriculum standards to local and national projects; training and supporting national Ministry of Education curriculum and instruction staff; working with vendors and independent contractors; training and supporting independent contractors; and helping to provide curriculum and education-related guidance to the President, International and Chief Academic Officer and others in the International, Product, Digital Instruction Group teams.

The Director will help maintain a culture of the highest level of customer service to both internal and external customers. Under the supervision of the President, International, the Director will support a variety of curricular development efforts. The Director will also serve as a daily interface with multiple internal departments and external vendors and ministry staff who support curriculum efforts.

The Director must possess deep content and curriculum expertise, exceptional project management skills while supporting multiple projects to deliver quality curricular resources. A fast-paced, deadline-driven environment creates a need for a detail-oriented person with strong project management skills, a solid understanding of the K-12 education landscape, international curriculum development and related instructional practice, and an ability to multitask to meet the curriculum needs of our internal partners and external clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with the Chief Academic Officer, ensure curriculum development efforts align with educator needs and client expectations
  • Lead international curriculum consultation conversatiions with ministries of education and other international partners
  • Support development of standards-based curriculum and content in both international and domestic settings
  • Review and revise curriculum for both domestic and international preK-12 content
  • Provide support to writing teams consisting of independent consultants (invoicing, file management support, content and curriculum guidance, training)
  • Work directly with the International Project Director to manage and track documents and deliverables across a variety of platforms
  • Work directly with the International Product Director to scope projects and accurately plan and deliver the curriculum that is the framework for the products. Ensure content and curriculum in products is up-to-date and accurate.
  • Effectively coordinate and direct content development by outside vendors
  • Ensure vendor adherence to project scope, specifications, and delivery deadlines
  • Maintain project management tools and processes to track and facilitate the transparency of the project cycle
  • Establish and monitor plans for on-time delivery of curricular resources
  • Handle project-oriented responsibilities and on-going process improvement initiatives
  • Respond and provide information related to trends and effective instructional practices, both domestic and international

Who You Are:

  • Minimum of five years of content development, project management and/or instructional experience in the K-12 space
  • Knowledge and understanding of national and international education standards, in particular U.S. education standards including CCSS and NGSS
  • Knowledge and experience with digital media and the use of digital media in instruction
  • Editorial experience in developing, writing and editing curriculum materials that effectively leverage technology and digital media
  • Strong communication (both orally and in writing) and people skills
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and solve problems
  • Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills
  • Given collaboration occurs across varying timezones, may require work at odd hours or weekends
  • Ability and willingness to travel internationally
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Pro
  • Must have legal right to work in the United States
