It has created 9 schools so far that all have the freedoms and flexibilities of charter schools and the financial support and services of a district school, including a school building at little to no cost.

Charter Schools

The Charter School Fellowship supports the development of high quality charter schools in Indianapolis. These schools are fully autonomous and are accountable to their charter school authorizer for increasing student achievement.

Who Should Apply and Why

Successful school founders are unique people. In addition to leading the vision and leadership components of their work, applicants will need to have the tenacity, creativity, and drive to build a successful school in Indianapolis.

  • Previous and current charter school founders and leaders. You’ve built teams, curriculum, and community before and have a vision of how it could be done better. You’ve led teams of teachers, overseen evaluation and assessment, and thrive in creating something from scratch, and have the passion to make it happen.
  • Turnaround experts. No challenge is too large when it comes to providing a solid education for our kids. Have you led school transition efforts to guide a community toward success? Indianapolis could benefit from your results, strategies, and vision, and having Mayoral support doesn’t hurt.
  • Entrepreneurs outside of education. Successful school leadership comes in many forms, including successful entrepreneurs in business, nonprofits, and social enterprise.
