Financial Controller

Enuma - Berkeley, California or Remote - Part time

Position: Part-time flex-time (20-30 hours/week) employee, to begin as early as September 2020

Location: Bay Area preferred (in-office 1-2x/week post COVID-19), but fully remote can be considered. (Currently, our workplace operates fully remote until spring 2021 and potentially longer.)

Position Overview

We are looking for an experienced Controller who will lead the finance and accounting function of Enuma. This is not a “typical” Controller position, as we are looking for a proactive Controller who enjoys proposing improvements, processes, and resources to ensure their team is effectively and efficiently run and meeting the needs of various stakeholders of a series-B venture back mission-driven start-up.

The Controller will play a critical role in Enuma’s financial success with ample room to grow as Enuma grows. This role will report to the COO, and will work closely with the operations team in the U.S. and collaborate with the team members in our international subsidiaries.

Key Responsibilities

  • The daily accounting operation, ensuring that all financial and bookkeeping functions are carried out efficiently, accurately and in accordance with GAAP and accounting best practices
  • Support monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting that meets the needs of the stakeholders (i.e., internal, board, investors, donors)
  • Ensure tax reporting is done accurately and in a timely manner, working with external tax accountant, accountant, and operations team members in US, Korea and Beijing to collect necessary information
  • Guide financial decisions by playing a strategic role in maximizing return and limiting risk on cash
  • Identify and tackle projects to improve overall accounting and finance function - e.g., project-based accounting, intercompany transactions, audit preparation, update fiscal policies and procedures

Key Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of accounting principles, procedures and compliance requirements (GAAP)
  • Experience (or exposure) to independently lead the following areas: monthly close and reconciliations (QuickBooks), cash forecast, budgeting, tax, intercompany transactions and consolidations, and external audit management
  • Innate curiosity and eagerness to learn to keep processes current and efficient
  • A strong connection to Enuma’s mission

  • Attention to detail and tenacity for accuracy
  • Experience working in an international venture-backed tech company with subsidiaries and colleagues abroad is a plus.
