Position Overview:

InnovateEDU is seeking a Finance Manager. This leadership role is responsible for overseeing finance functions within the organization and will be engaged in strategic planning and executive initiatives. The Manager will lead a small team to manage the organization’s finance functions and, alongside the Executive Director, manage a $5 million annual budget. The Manager will work with program directors to administer sub-grants and awards, manage grant reporting across a range of philanthropic grants, maintain monthly reporting and fiscal compliance for a city-funded contract, prepare and present financial reports and projections for the Board, and lead the organization’s routine finance functions. The Director will be the primary point of contact for fiscal matters at InnovateEDU.

We are looking for someone to fill this role who is part people-person, part process maven, and who loves all things Quickbooks, Excel, and numbers. We are seeking a do-er who actually looks forward to audit season because they know they are going to ace it. Ideal candidates for this role are detail-oriented, love establishing and improving on business processes, and are quick problem solvers. You have experience managing the financial operations of an organization and are looking for a leadership role.


  • Must be proficient at using QuickBooks Online
  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s degree in business, public administration, finance, or related field or equivalent experience preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience in finance and accounting, business development, and/or other finance roles
  • In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and best practices related to nonprofit finance
  • Solid knowledge of financial analysis and forecasting
  • Experience managing philanthropic and/or public grants and related compliance and reporting requirements
  • Ability to create structure in ambiguous situations and design effective business processes
  • Strong leadership skills, executive presence, and interpersonal/written communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills, and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Passion for nonprofit work and for being a part of a growing team
  • Flexible approach, ability to operate effectively with uncertainty and change
  • Driven, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and with a “can-do” attitude and a bias for action


  • Drive the financial planning of the nonprofit by analyzing its performance and risks and providing reports to the Board and leadership on a regular basis
  • Retain constant awareness of the nonprofit’s financial position and act to prevent problems
  • Lead audit preparation, participation, and all aspects of the annual audit process
  • Manage the internal controls process including accounts payable and receivable
  • Lead the financial close process for each month/quarter/fiscal year
  • Oversee the administration and completion of biweekly payroll
  • Manage grant reporting across programs and prepare monthly/quarterly budget vs. actuals reports for each program
  • Manage a small team of accounting and finance personnel
  • Prepare timely and detailed reports on financial performance on a quarterly and annual basis
  • Conduct financial analysis to create financial forecasts and report to Executive Director and inform Program Directors
  • Ensure adherence to financial laws and guidelines

Work Location:

New York Tri-State Area. This position will have the ability to telework three days per week after the successful completion of an onboarding period of 90 days. The position will be expected to be on-site for audits, in-person regulatory visits, and from time to time at the request of the Executive Director.

All candidates are pay scaled by an independent third-party service or application which calculates the market rate for the applicant based on skills and qualifications, job duties, market conditions within the location of applicant, education and experience. This position’s compensation range begins at $72,000.
