Talent, Communications + Strategy Associate

Caliber Schools - Richmond, CA - Full time

About Caliber Schools

Caliber Schools is a cutting-edge public charter school network working to reimagine urban education in the Bay Area. Supported by some of the top philanthropies in the country, our mission is to prepare all our children to get to, and through, a four year college without remediation. We are community based. Our parents are active partners, and many staff live in our communities and send their children to our schools.

Our program combines personalized learning plans, blended and project-based learning, an intensive focus on writing, daily computer coding instruction, and rich social and emotional programming that includes Restorative Justice and mindfulness.

Our first school, Caliber: Beta Academy, a K-8 in Richmond, CA, opened in 2014 and is now fully grown serving 800 students. We opened our second K-8 in Vallejo, CA in fall of 2016 serving more than 300 students. We plan to open additional schools in 2017-19 as we grow to nearly 5,000 seats K-12 in the Bay Area.

Position Summary

We are looking for a passionate, hard working, organized “people person” to be our first ever Talent, Communications and Strategy Associate. It is crucial that you have previous teaching experience as you will be interacting extensively with teaching candidates and informing strategy from the teacher’s perspective. You will be in charge of organizing and supporting the sourcing and recruiting process, as well as playing a large role in communication and strategy work for the organization.

Your main responsibilities will be: screening resumes, conducting phone screens, organizing candidate visits (tours, demo lessons, transportation, etc.), planning Caliber events, creating communication materials, grant research (and drafting grant proposals) and helping to make improvements to the overall teacher experience at Caliber Schools. Oftentimes, you will be the first impression of Caliber; it is crucial that you are positive, articulate, empathetic, and able to connect quickly with others. Caliber is growing, so there will be opportunities for growth from this position. Your time will be split across our school sites in Richmond and Vallejo, with approximately one day a week in SF (if convenient).

If you think that teachers are some of the most important people on the planet, and you are passionate about getting great teachers into schools that serve historically underserved and minority populations, then this will be a great fit. Caliber is in its “startup” phase. So, if you enjoy diving in, dealing with the unexpected, innovating and putting your expertise towards an incredibly important mission, Caliber is the place for you.
