Summary of Responsibilities:

Lead the development of high quality expeditionary curriculum by

  • Developing a framework for exploring one’s passions through expeditionary learning.
  • Developing courses to flesh out this framework where needed.
  • Supporting partner teachers in creating courses on the Summit Learning Platform. Ensuring all Expeditions projects are complete to the highest levels of the Stanford Center for the Assessment, Learning, and Equity (SCALE) Performance Task Quality Rubric, the Cognitive Skills Rubric and the Expeditions Project Quality Rubric
  • Ensuring all teacher-facing resources are visually appealing, formatted similarly, accessible, and high quality.
  • Ensuring all content assessments are representative of the best, most reliable, most valid assessments of knowledge possible within engineering constraints.
  • Ensuring completion, excellence, and accessibility of Summit’s Expeditions curricula and assessments (with an expeditionary focus) within and beyond Summit.
  • Staying abreast of research and trends involving curriculum and assessment, and particularly expeditionary education and academic literacy.
  • Ensuring curricular improvements increase accessibility for Language Learners and students with special needs.

Develop, design, and conduct professional development for teachers and school leaders.

  • Train faculty members in building and implementing curricula and assessments.
  • Coach teachers and school leaders to effectively implement curricular initiatives.
  • Regularly conduct appropriate needs assessments with teachers, students, and leaders, and propose solutions to demonstrated needs.
  • Collaborate regularly with the Expeditions Directors.

Support and maintain expeditionary education partnerships beyond Summit.

Serve as a collaborative member of the Schools Team.

  • Be a positive and knowledgeable representative of Summit Public Schools, the Schools Team, and the Curriculum and Assessment Team in work related to expeditionary C&A.
  • Share best practices in curriculum, assessment, and instruction, particularly in Expeditions, with other Curriculum Managers.
  • Report regularly to the Senior Director of Curriculum and Assessment.

Requirements:

  • Meet health clearance, and pass the reference, background/criminal checks, per education code.
  • Located in the San Francisco/Bay Area.
  • At least two years of curriculum design in an expeditionary context.
