Executive Editor

MIT Horizon - Cambridge, Massachusetts - Full time

MIT’s Open Learning is looking for an Executive Editor to join MIT Horizon.

This is an opportunity for a capable and experienced editor, manager, and leader who delights in learning about everything from augmented reality to robotics. In leading our outstanding content team, the Executive Editor will guide the fulfillment of our mission to educate general audiences on emerging technologies.

We want to hear from you if you are an editor of journalism or analyst reports that explain complex topics in a compelling way; if you would enjoy the excitement and potential of an early-stage company; and if you want to help lead a diverse, high-caliber team within MIT to transform corporate learning of innovative technologies. We are collaborative and open-minded, and unlike a typical startup we share the support of a major academic institution and believe in balanced personal and professional lives.

The Executive Editor will report to the Director of MIT Horizon, a successful entrepreneur.

What will you be responsible for?

  1. Creating outstanding educational content on emerging technologies.
  2. Edit the writers’ copy to ensure that the articles are clear, compelling, and useful for a non-technical audience.
  3. Promoting adherence to a consistent voice and style across platform.
  4. Adapting flexibly to feedback from clients and internal stakeholders.
  5. Innovating on and refining a content strategy that employs articles, illustrations, videos, podcasts, and other media.
  6. Growing and managing our team of writers, editors, researchers, subject matter experts, and freelancers, and guiding their reporting and research.
  7. Taking responsibility for the content development process and publishing schedule by proactively allocating resources, establishing deadlines, and maintaining accountability across to help the team meet and beat those deadlines.
  8. Supporting a culture of openness, collaboration, and productivity.
  9. Coordinating among all major business functions within the MIT Horizon team and providing critical input into cross-initiative decisions, budgeting, and planning.
