Oakland Families for Quality Schools - Oakland, CA - Full time


Position Overview: The Executive Director for this new not-for-profit organization will lead the organization, set the vision, develop the strategy, represent the organization, develop partners, and create programs to meet its goals.

Organization: Oakland Families for Quality Schools (OFQS) is a newly created California nonprofit public benefit organization. It was launched to meet two important needs in Oakland public education:

1) to provide a strong and local public voice for families and staff in the city’s public charter schools

2) to coordinate activities that would increase quality and equity within the charter sector.

OFQS is funded by grants from Educate78 and the Rogers Family Foundation.

Responsibilities

This individual reports to the Board of Directors, and is responsible for the following duties:

Set the vision: Establish and communicate the organization’s vision, mission and strategy; work with the Board of Directors to create annual goals and interim milestones

Represent the Oakland charter sector: Use multiple channels (events, social media, traditional media) to provide information about Oakland charter schools; cultivate others (parents, students, school staff) to speak on behalf of their schools; build relationships with key community leaders, elected officials and civic organizations

Lead programs: Design and oversee execution of initiatives to achieve organizational goals; evaluate efficacy of initiatives; adjust activities as needed to maximize impact

Lead the team: Recruit, hire, develop and retain a strong and diverse team

Raise funds: Solicit philanthropic donations, cultivate donor relationships, and prepare grant proposals and reports; develop other potential funding sources.

Develop the organization’s governance: Recruit diverse and influential community leaders to serve on the Board of Directors; establish a Parent Advisory Council; leverage Board and Council expertise to strengthen organization

Skills and Qualifications

* Demonstrated commitment to quality and equity for all public school students

* Track record of success in leading organizations

* Proven ability to build collaborative relationships with diverse individuals

* Experience in coalition-building and community organizing

* Experience with fund-raising and managing a budget for financial stability and sustainability

* Ability to achieve results with limited resources in an entrepreneurial environment

* Excellent oral and written communication skills

* Knowledge of public charter schools

( Long-term ties to Oakland, CA strongly preferred
