Curriculum Associates is seeking an Employment Counsel to join our growing Legal department. This is a new position, reporting to CA’s General Counsel. Our employment counsel will be responsible for assisting the General Counsel and the People and Culture team in the management and handling of all employment related matters in the company.

The impact you'll have:

  • Provide guidance on a variety of employment law matters, including recruiting, employee relations, performance management, discipline and terminations, wage and hour matters and leave issues under federal and state law
  • Negotiate and manage any employment-related disputes, including supervising outside counsel and advising on settlement where appropriate
  • Advise on employee agreements, including related to potential new hires.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of employee-related policies and practices.
  • Oversee the implementation and updating of a new employee handbook
  • Provide guidance on employment-related compliance matters
  • Identify risks and opportunities in the labor and employment area and advise accordingly.
  • Monitor and research applicable legislative and regulatory developments related to employment matters.

Who we're looking for:

  • At least 5 years of substantive employment law experience either in a law firm or a corporate legal department
  • JD from an accredited law school
  • Admitted to practice law/Member of the Bar in at least one state
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable employment laws and regulations and related best practices
  • Ability to communicate advice clearly through written and oral communications to a wide variety of constituencies within the company.
  • Ability to exercise sound, independent judgment with integrity at all times
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage simultaneous projects and prioritize work appropriately
  • Business-minded approach to identify legal issues, balance risks, and provide practical advice to the People and Culture team and others in the organization

Location: This role is based out of our Billerica, MA office; however, remote candidates will be considered.

Travel: This role requires less than 5% travel occasionally to office locations but no set schedule/requirement.
