Elementary STEAM Lead Teacher at The League of Young Inventors

Job Description

The League of Young Inventors is looking for a talented educator with the skills, passion, and commitment to help us take our STEAM programs to the next level, as we continue to build our in-school residency and after school programs. The ideal candidate will have expertise in project-based learning and/or science instruction, a playful attitude, and strong classroom management skills. This position will involve a mix of teaching, and curriculum development, and would be a great fit for an experienced elementary educator with an aptitude and passion for science and engineering.



  • Lead a mix of after school lessons, in-school classroom-based lessons, and vacation camp programs.
  • Come to each session fully prepared, having thoroughly read through and internalized the lesson plan and tinkered with all relevant design challenge prototypes.
  • Communicate challenging scientific concepts accurately and in a manner that resonates with young children.
  • Employ effective classroom management strategies to ensure that all students are safely and meaningfully engaged with learning.

Curriculum Development

  • Review, field test, and provide directional feedback on existing units of study.
  • Review, edit, and refine parent explainer sheets and teacher-facing materials.
  • Contribute to the development of new units of study.

Desired Experience, Skills, and Mindsets

  • At least 2-3 years of teaching experience (leading hands-on activities in a classroom, after school program, day camp, etc.) with elementary age students
  • B.A. or B.S. Degree (preferably in education and/or applied sciences)
  • Familiarity with project-based learning (preferred, though not required)
  • Familiarity with foundational engineering concepts (preferred, though not required)
  • The ability to manage multiple student projects and personalities at once
  • Punctual and reliable with excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Open to feedback and dedicated to growing and improving your craft as an educator
  • Strong initiative and desire to take ownership of the role and the work responsibilities described above
  • Excited to work in a growing start-up with the flexibility to wear many hats as our organization continues to evolve
  • Makers/builders/crafters and life-long learners with a curiosity about the science behind how things work are strongly encouraged to apply!

We take kids on an exciting journey to unlock the mystery and magic behind how things work, while giving them the space to experiment, invent, embrace failure, and have fun. After nearly three years of developing, testing, and refining our curriculum in our Park Slope after school and camp programs, we’re looking to expand our reach to a broader range of young inventors across New York City and beyond.
