The Position
The Special Education teacher's role is designed to support scholars with an exceptional need in grades K-8 at Nashville Classical. This role works with our school’s most vulnerable and hardest-working scholars and it is essential to our school’s success.
Teachers must be licensed exceptional education teachers in Tennessee or their current state of residence.
The Responsibilities
1. Operate consistently with Nashville Classical’s core values and school-wide systems for culture and academics.
2. Commit to teach a rigorous, full daily schedule and attend daily professional development.
3. Do whatever it takes to achieve the mission of Nashville Classical.
4. Implement school-wide systems for academics and behavior.
5. Provide instruction across subjects via small group “pull out” lessons and “push in” support to specific scholars.
6. Collaborate with and support general education teachers on curriculum, instructional strategies, assessments, and Individual Education Plans compliance.
7. Collaborate with other Special Education/EL staff on curriculum, instructional strategies, assessments, and Individual Education Plans.
8. Provide behavior and social emotional support to scholars through interventions.
9. Monitor, compile, analyze, and report scholar data through meetings, reports and other required compliance.
10. Communicate progress to families and engage families through formal meetings and informal phone calls, home visits, bus rides, and notes.
The Qualifications
The ideal candidate possesses
1. A certification in SPED, Intervention, or is working towards the SPED/ Intervention certifications.
2. Experience with a Special Education caseload.
3. A track record of success teaching core subjects (Math and/or ELA) to elementary or middle school scholars.
The Compensation
We offer a generous compensation package that is commensurate with experience and starts at 5% above our local district. We equip staff with the tools needed to succeed, including a Macintosh Laptop and classroom supplies.
