School Description

Presidio Hill School is an independent, progressive school located in the Presidio Heights neighborhood of San Francisco and serves a diverse population of approximately 220 students enrolled in transitional kindergarten to 8th grade, with a faculty and staff of approximately 45 people. Established in 1918 by artist-educator-activists Helen Salz and Flora Arnstein, Presidio Hill School is the oldest continuously operating progressive school in California, with a mission and deep history connected to social justice. Our Educational Technology Specialist and Distance Learning Coordinator will have demonstrated passion and experience teaching and working with students and a school community that explicitly strives to be inclusive.

Guided by a skilled and caring faculty, students learn to be confident and curious, to be creative problem solvers and independent, critical thinkers. Learning at PHS is collaborative and active. We place great value on the arts as both an academic discipline and an essential element of a meaningful life. Situated on the edge of the Presidio, our school takes full and frequent advantage of the park’s 1,500 acres; whether our students are studying science, art, social studies,or literature, the Presidio is a rich and vital “classroom” to our students.

Our vibrant, diverse, and supportive community allows students to explore their unique voices, traits, and talents; our emphasis on the importance of community and justice encourages students to develop self-awareness, personal character, resilience, and an understanding of their role as stewards of the planet and citizens of the world.

Presidio Hill School seeks a faculty and staff that reflects the broad range of diversity in the San Francisco Bay Area. Our school is strongly committed to promoting cultural competency in all interactions and programs. Invested in the growth, happiness, and preparation of our teachers, we provide generous support for their professional development.

Position Description and Primary Responsibilities

The K-8 Educational Technology Specialist and Distance Learning Coordinator will demonstrate a strong understanding of how technology can support teaching and learning in core and specialist disciplines. The Specialist will bring a deep passion for working collaboratively with teachers to advance student learning outcomes through the use of technology. Their position will include supporting teachers, students, and parents/guardians in a distance learning model and with on campus learning as well. They will potentially “toggle” between both approaches, distance and on-campus. They will push into classrooms, co-teach lessons using technology, observe/provide feedback, and work directly with individual or small groups of students, whether in person or on-line. The Specialist will work collaboratively with faculty to help them implement and integrate technology into the existing curriculum.

The Specialist will design and host regular parent/guardian education meetings (in person and/or online) in order to help parents understand the tools we are asking their students to use and to provide an overall picture of the role of technology in students’ learning.

They will also actively collaborate with our Director of Technology to configure software, evaluate existing hardware and software, recommend new programs, and budget accordingly. This new position will require a visionary who can be on the ground, practically implementing strategies and new programs to collectively advance the community’s understanding of how technology can enhance student learning outcomes both in distance modes and when students can be on campus. Additional responsibilities include supervisory duties, active involvement in collaborative divisional meetings, and participation in various student and community activities.

This is a full-time position, including an additional week after the school year concludes and an additional two weeks prior to the start of each school year, 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. (5:00 p.m. on Wednesdays), beginning August 10, 2020.
