Educational Designer

Committee for Children - Seattle, Washington - Full time

In our pursuit of positively transforming the social-emotional well-being of 100 million children annually by 2028, Committee for Children is looking for an experienced educational designer to join our team! In this role, you’ll work with the CFC Middle School product team to develop and write cutting-edge, research-based social and emotional learning program content for middle schools.

The ideal candidate will have experience conceptualizing and writing research-based curriculum and other educational materials for students, teachers and parents/caregivers for grades 5-8. In addition, this person will have experience working in a highly collaborative environment.

This contract position (1099) is estimated to be up to 40 hours per week for 10 months and requires some on-site work at our office in Seattle.

Primary Responsibilities Include

  • Collaborating with researchers and instructional designers on program design
  • Draft and/or revise lesson content for students
  • Write lesson plans for teachers to accompany student lessons
  • Write student handouts to accompany lessons
  • Develop assessments to accompany lessons
  • Reviewing video footage to identify clips to accompany and enhance specific lesson goals
  • Collaborate on and review media content


  • Bachelor’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design, Curriculum Development, or Education
  • Experience conceptualizing and writing curriculum and educational materials
  • Knowledge of current, effective practices in teaching, learning, and curriculum design
  • Demonstrated competence in creating materials for diverse populations, including culturally diverse, special needs, and urban settings
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and multitask
  • Experience writing curricula for grades 5-8 highly preferred
  • Graduate degree in Curriculum and Instruction, Instructional Design, or Curriculum Development highly preferred
  • Experience with educational media and other emerging technologies highly preferred
  • Experience with teaching students in grades 5-8 highly preferred
  • Knowledge of or experience with SEL highly preferred
