On average, U.S. students are with substitute teachers for 5% of the typical school year. That means our students have substitute teachers for more than six months of their K-12 school career. The problem? We're suffering from a national shortage of substitute teachers.Swing Education is focused on taking on the substitute teacher shortage. We make it easy for great schools and quality subs to find each other. We help schools access more subs and offload tedious work (recruiting, screening, payroll, etc.) and we help subs find jobs, gain experience and build their professional network.

The Position:

As the New Market & Education Compliance Specialist you will be an essential part of the growth of the Swing Education marketplace by informing the expansion to new states and monitoring regulation in current states. You will identify state requirements and develop streamlined processes for building a qualified substitute teacher pool. You will innovate on current strategies to deepen our understanding of credentialing requirements, background check approvals, and certification requirements across all fifty states. We are looking for someone who is passionate about supporting schools and teachers and brings an analytical and persistent approach to the challenges presented by growing at scale.You will report to the VP of Talent and will work cross functionally with Partnerships, Sales, Marketing, and Talent team members across all territories. We are expanding quickly and need someone who thinks creatively, iterates quickly, and engages collaboratively to lead the projects and experiments that will help us exceed the expectations of subs and schools in our markets.

Responsibilities:

New Market Preparation

  • Develop regional processes and infrastructure to start new markets including resources to navigate background checks and state substitute requirements
  • Conduct landscape analysis of substitute teacher supply for new locations

Compliance Management

  • Monitor legal/regulatory landscape in existing and planned regions, understand case precedents, interpret effects of new regulatory law and update collateral and processes as needed
  • Understand credentialing requirements and nuances across regions
  • Coordinate with external counsel and leadership as required
  • Identify opportunities for Swing to influence and improve government policy to streamline our substitute teacher onboarding process

Cross-functional Coordination

  • Work with Sales & Talent to communicate substitute teacher requirements and onboarding process
  • Work with Product & Engineering on setting up relevant state onboarding workflows in compliance with state requirements
  • Work with Partnerships / General Managers to ensure strategic growth and expansion
  • Work with Marketing to stand up digital ads and content for new regions

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, and 3-5 years of work experience
  • Experience in education law, policy, or compliance management preferred
  • Proven ability to think analytically and use data to inform strategy and solve complex problems
  • Enthusiastic, entrepreneurial style, eager to take initiative in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Outstanding time management skills, able to understand and prioritize different activities, detail-orientation, multi-task, accomplishing numerous tasks and changing priorities in an effective and timely manner
  • Excellent communication and demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally.
