Education Sales Manager

The Role

We are seeking an Education Sales Manager to lead sales and account management efforts for Piper in the Bay Area/Northern California area. We are building a sales team with a focus on the K-12 market, working with educators, school leaders and district administrators. We are seeking an experienced sales professional who will become an expert on our product and help define our sales strategies and processes. You’ll be a good fit if you are skilled at consultative sales, highly motivated, creative and excited to get in on the ground floor of building a new business.

Candidates must have prior sales experience in the K-12 education and a solid understanding of user/purchaser behavior and sales cycles within that market. The ideal candidate has a track record of successfully selling edtech solutions into elementary and middle schools in the San Francisco Bay Area, has an established network of relationships, works well in a fast-paced startup environment and is driven to achieve sales goals.

What You’ll Do:

Account Management/Sales Goals

  • Conduct outreach efforts (phone and in-person) to establish relationships with prospects at targeted schools and districts
  • Build a steadily growing pipeline of prospective sales opportunities for Piper in the Bay Area/Northern California
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting of pipeline and forecasts using Salesforce.com
  • Achieve monthly, quarterly and annual revenue targets for Northern California with a hunter mentality
  • Use a top-down, consultative sales approach to build, maintain & strengthen relationships with all key decision makers and key influencers within top Northern California school districts
  • Take a proactive approach to territory management and develop goals and objectives for all accounts within assigned territory. Identify where sales opportunities exist (i.e. demographics, education trends, funding, other key external influences).
  • Demonstrate exceptional interpersonal, written/verbal communication, organizational, follow-up, consultative sales and presentation skills.
  • Manage contract negotiations, prepare quotations and manage the purchase order process.
  • Travel approximately 50% of time (with seasonal variations)
  • Manage high outbound call and email volume whether traveling or in the office.
  • Product /Industry Knowledge
  • Demonstrate exceptional Piper product knowledge in both physical product and curriculum to be successful in increasingly competitive environment.
  • Maintain an understanding of industry trends, current events, product and technology developments by reading professional publications, researching all available resources prospect/product resources and participating in professional organizations.
  • Understand new technologies and industry trends and be able to speak to how they impact customers and Piper.
  • Team Oriented Environment
  • Partner with company personnel (i.e. Curriculum & Professional Development, School Success, Product, etc.) to develop strategies for sales attainment.
  • Communicate workload focus to team on a regular basis (daily, weekly, etc)
  • Proactively share information that you’ve learned in the field to support efforts to build a sales best practices throughout the company
  • Who You Are:
  • Minimum 3-5 years in sales and account management experience, with a proven success in territory management, consultative sales and exceptional client relations.
  • Demonstrable track record of revenue goal/quota achievement in K12 products.
  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
  • Ability to compose highly effective sales emails and client presentations.
  • High attention to detail and the ability to manage a diverse workload.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, startup environment.
  • Ability to work in San Francisco office in the Dogpatch area
  • Proficiency with Salesforce and Google Suite products.
  • Must be able to travel to accounts throughout Northern California
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Bonus points if you have:
  • Knowledge of the education market with connections in schools and districts
  • Sales experience with a focus on the K-12 education market (especially grades 3-8)
  • Familiarity with state standards for technology based products
  • Ability to geek out a bit and really relate to STEM educators
