FEN Learning is looking for a dynamic and passionate Editor to work with our managing editor to produce winning content for our leading educational websites: TeacherVision, FactMonster, and Infoplease. The editor will be heavily involved in the overarching direction of all three sites. He or she will have experience in the education industry and will use that experience to guide TeacherVision, in particular. He or she will work with curriculum professionals to plan, create, and publish holistic, vetted content that real teachers can use in their classrooms.
Strategy and Planning
●Develop a deep understanding of the target audience for each site, and guide our editorial direction around the needs and wants of our audiences.
●Identify opportunities to differentiate our sites and brands with unique and compelling content. Work with managing editor to define and launch new initiatives.
●Work with managing editor on a content acquisition and production strategy for each site, and create yearly and monthly editorial calendars.
●Work with managing editor to create a publishing calendar and manage the production schedule for all sites.
●Manage vendor relationships; assign content; communicate with vendors on questions, deadlines, and other aspects of content creation; and edit/vet final product.
●Maintain relationships with third-party providers of content, create a schedule of third-party content and work with providers to ensure timely delivery.
●Maintain relationships with guest bloggers and high-profile writers, and work with them to create, edit and publish content to the site.
●Work with teacher and/or curriculum advisors to vett, organize, optimize and correlate content for TeacherVision.
●Ensure that featured content is refreshed for each site.
●Ensure dynamic content is pulling onto sites where appropriate, and maintain and update information databases from which content is being pulled, where appropriate.
●Maintain and update content on FactMonster and InfoPlease, as needed.
●Write the occasional piece for sites.
●Work with the managing editor to implement projects for each site, including sales initiatives, CMS projects, content assessments and updates.
●Train and manage supporting staff and interns, as needed.
●Provide editorial support for sales and become the point person for some sales initiatives, as determined by the managing editor.
●Collaborate with Marketing on newsletters, social media initiatives, marketing materials, and other marketing initiatives.
●Bachelor’s degree required
●Degree in education, K12 teaching experience, or educational publishing experience
●Strong project coordination skills
●Experience with digital media and learning solutions
●Experience with curriculum development and/or building plans
●Strong editorial skills
●Very high English proficiency, with strong written communication skills in English
●Beneficial to have experience at digital education company
●Beneficial to have experience with video and interactive content
3 to 10 years
