ORGANIZATION

Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School (DSNCS) was founded with the belief that excellent schools are a crucial part of strong, vibrant urban communities. DSNCS is a Horace Mann “in‐district” charter school, part of Boston Public Schools. Founded by The Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE) and the Dudley Street Neighborhood Initiative, DSNCS works with local partners to ensure all children in the Dudley neighborhood have access to a seamless, high-quality education. DSNCS opened its doors in 2012, and has grown to serve up to 325 students in grades PreK-5. DSNCS also serves as a Teaching Academy, housing the Boston Teacher Residency program, which prepares preservice teachers for careers in the Boston Public Schools.

The Boston Plan for Excellence (BPE), an education nonprofit, operates DSNCS and the Dearborn STEM Academy, which serves students in grades 6-12. Together, the two schools form a PreK-12 pathway in the Dudley Square neighborhood. Graduates from the 5th grade at DSNCS feed automatically into the Dearborn, where they can choose between career pathways in Computer Science, Engineering/Advanced Manufacturing and Health & Life Sciences. Dearborn also supports graduates beyond high school to ensure that all alumni are on a path to college or career that leads to employment at a family-sustaining wage.

Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School seeks a Principal who is deeply committed to great student outcomes. For this role, Dudley Street Neighborhood Charter School seeks:

  • A strong partnership builder with families and the community, who sees DSNCS as a place where teachers and students should be constantly learning and improving;
  • A change manager who is comfortable working in a complex environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Key Responsibilities of the Principal include:

  • Build and maintain a great team by recruiting, selecting, and retaining an outstanding faculty and staff. Coach and support teachers on strong instructional practices, and hold them to high standards and expectations. Lead efforts to analyze and use school-level data to personalize instruction, and to inform the practices of teachers and residents. Also, bring a growth mindset and openness to new approaches.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, characterized by high levels of transparency, shared leadership, collaboration, organization and efficiency. Lead by example. Cultivate a school community that is reflective, collaborative, and inspiring for students, families, faculty, and community partners that values innovation, accountability, and performance. Collaborate with campus leaders to develop and implement ongoing professional development opportunities to ensure DSNC is hub of continuous learning for teachers, student support staff, Boston Teacher Residents and Dudley Promise Corps members.
  • Builds strong family and community partnerships in support of student learning. Oversee student recruitment and create a welcoming environment for all students and families. Promote effective communication between staff, parents, students, and community members. Create and support partnerships with local leaders and organizations to provide students with extended supports, and enrichment opportunities.
  • Manage effective teams to drive results in service of the school’s mission and vision as a BPE Teaching Academy. Implement the school’s vision for instructional excellence and ensuring alignment with that vision for faculty members, students, families, and the community. Lead the implementation and refinement of all school systems, schedules, structures, and operations. As a BPE Teaching Academy, lead a school that serves as a clinical model for training teachers while providing a world-class education to students.

QUALIFICATIONS

In order to fulfill these responsibilities, the ideal Principal candidate will be:

  • An experienced school leader and teacher, with a proven record of success who is well versed in high-impact instructional practices and believes deeply in setting high expectations for all students.
  • A proven collaborator, with high emotional intelligence and exceptional ability for speaking about the lived experiences of students and families in the Dudley neighborhood.
  • An inspirational leader devoted to coaching and develop colleagues while holding them accountable to measurable results.
  • A self-reflective leader who understands the effects of race, class, ethnicity, income, disability, gender identity, and other areas of difference in our society and has personally worked in similar communities to ensure all students have an opportunity to achieve their personal dreams of college and career success.
  • A strong written and oral communicator who is able to engage students, parents, and faculty in dialogue and speak in a clear and authentic manner about the school’s goals and priorities.
  • Master's degree and valid Massachusetts Principal License, preferred.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

This position offers a competitive salary range of $122,000-139,000 and robust benefits. More details can be provided upon request.
