Director, Sales Operations (San Mateo, CA)

IXL Learning, a leading edtech company with products used by 12 million students worldwide, is looking for a passionate leader to build and to run our sales operations team. Your leadership will directly help IXL drive profitability and make a significant contribution to developing IXL’s overall sales strategy, increasing the impact of the team. This role will own all sales operations functions including sales system/tool management (Salesforce, Subscription Manager, etc), reporting and dashboards, quota and comp plan management, sales process and automation, budget management, enablement, and regional onboarding.

This is a full time position at IXL headquarters in San Mateo, CA. We will also consider remote candidates (will require travel to San Mateo, CA one week out of every month).


  • Develop and lead a growing sales operations team
  • Work closely with sales management to identify and prioritize opportunities to build world-class sales operations process and infrastructure
  • Enhance dashboard and reporting capabilities including
  • Measure & analyze sales OKRs in terms of activity, pipe generation, and opportunity management
  • Understand our current Go-To-Market strategy and work with all teams to execute
  • Manage and optimize systems used by sales teams
  • Build budget, both revenue and expense, working with Vice President of Sales
  • Work with sales leadership to identify sales enablement opportunities for new hires and tenured team
  • Support the assignment of quotas and administration of commission plan. Coordinate timely calculation of quarterly and annual sales commissions and incentive
  • Utilize knowledge of the customer and industry to ensure competitive advantage in the marketplace
  • Drive strategic projects that enable sales leaders to better operate their teams, resulting in quantifiable business outcomes (e.g., better forecasting)
  • Optimize sales tools, integration with related systems, and utilization to increase data accuracy and visibility


  • BA/BS degree in related field
  • 8+ years managing sales and/or business operations in the educational publishing or edtech industry
  • Sophisticated understanding of sales performance metrics and KPIs
  • Extensive knowledge of CRM tools (Salesforce, other internal tools)
  • Excellent business application skills using Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to build and give presentations to leadership team members
  • Experience in planning sales quotas and compensation
  • Creation of pipeline/bookings targets and forecasting/reporting on actual attainment
  • Strong knowledge of systems integration within Salesforce and other sales tools
  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Experience at either education publishing or edtech companies highly desired
  • Experience with cloud/SaaS product sales preferred
