Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School (in the heart of Oakland’s historic Fruitvale district on the St. Elizabeth Campus) partners with East Bay families of limited means to provide their student a unique opportunity to receive a holistic education and become students in service of others. Through a rigorous curriculum built around personalized learning, professional work experience, and the centuries old Lasallian tradition of providing transformational education to those most in need, Cristo Rey De La Salle students graduate prepared to thrive in college and compete in a rapidly developing world.

Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School is seeking a Director of Wholeness for its Lasallian Catholic, co-educational, secondary school to open in the summer of 2018 on the campus formerly home to Saint Elizabeth High School. The school is sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans.

The school will use the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) modeled after the successful programs at 32 Cristo Rey Network schools. All students are required to complete a college preparatory curriculum and participate in the Work Study Program. Under the Corporate Work Study Program, each student is employed five days per month by a local business or community agency to provide tuition assistance and complement the school’s on-site curricular program. The school is currently participating in the Replication Process of the Cristo Rey Network.

A rigorous and personalized college preparatory curriculum integrated with a corporate work study experience prepares students to succeed in college and in life.

Purpose

With the Principal, the Director of Wholeness is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive student and family support program that is focused on student success in college and in life. Key elements of the program include but are not limited to an ecological frame, prevention and intervention strategies, trauma-informed care,

healing circles, wellness, restorative justice practices and wholeness. The Director will build and lead a team of social workers and/or counselors that care for the students’ psychological

and social well-being at home, at school, and at the workplace. As the Director of Wholeness, he/she will assist our counselors in assisting the students and families cope with social and psychological problems that may arise at school, at home, at work, or in the larger community that influence a student’s academic and social success. As part of the Leadership Team, the Director will collaborate with the Academic Administrators and Director of Campus Ministry in the design and implementation of curriculum, prevention programs, and crisis intervention plans that address social and psychological issues relevant to our students’ personal and social growth. In addition, the Director will assist in the planning and implementation of a comprehensive Character Formation program that supports the mental, spiritual, physical, and leadership growth of our students. This job description reflects management’s assignment of essential job responsibilities; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

Essential Functions

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage, with the Principal, a team of school social workers and/or counselors
  • Develop and manage the implementation of a set of school-wide counseling protocols including but not limited to after-school-hours student emergencies, student referral system, home visit requests, and crisis intervention protocols
  • Develop and manage implementation of a set of counselor-specific protocols including but not limited to confidentiality, home visits, crisis management, one-on-one counseling sessions, group counseling, family counseling, family support groups, counseling notes, parent communication, communication with non-counseling staff, and communication within counseling staff protocols
  • Ensure that all counselors are up-to-date with their license and insurance requirements
  • Plan and/or implement professional development for counseling staff
  • Plan and implement training for Cristo Rey De La Salle non-counseling staff
  • Assist counselors to manage their caseload and create protocols for caseload assignments
  • Collaborate with Campus Ministry in the creation of the Character Formation Program
  • Collaborate with College Guidance department in the creation and implementation of College Counseling guidelines that are aligned with our families’ circumstances
  • Collaborate with Academic staff in the creation of Emergency Preparedness Procedures
  • Familiarize all counselors with social services in the community and proactively connect students and families to those services
  • Establish and maintain partnerships with other community organizations
  • Manage, plan and facilitate the counseling team and its budget
  • Meet with Principal on an ongoing basis; serve on the multidisciplinary team; and provide advice in preventative and crisis situations that are aligned with the Lasallian Catholic values of Cristo Rey De La Salle
  • Manage, with the Principal, recruitment and hiring process of LCSWs and/or counselors
  • Conduct one-on-one and group counseling sessions with students, and counseling sessions and home visits with the family members of our students as needed
  • Assist in Academic responsibilities (i.e. parent nights, lunch duty, parking duty, chaperoning retreats, CWSP orientation, Staff to Work Day, Alpha Summer Institute, etc.)
  • Help students develop the grit, resilience, and growth mindset required for success in the workplace

Ideal Qualifications

  • LCSW/LPCC with BSW or MSW required; Ph.D. in Psychology desired
    • Prior supervisory or management experience preferred but not required
  • Spanish bilingual preferred but not required
  • Strong written and communication skills; detail oriented; team player; ability to multi-task in fast paced environment
  • Relentless focus on results, high level accountability, and willingness to do “whatever it takes”
  • Ability building rapport and trust with people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including underrepresented urban youth and first-generation college students
  • Understands and embraces the cultural backgrounds of students and families
  • Commitment to the Lasallian Catholic values of the school and the mission of the Cristo Rey Network and model
  • Ability to manage many ongoing relationships with a significant number of students
  • Ability to assess situations and, when it is necessary, self-advocate to engage resources and school leadership
  • Compensation

    Full-time, year-round position with competitive salary, benefits, and paid vacation

    Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Regularly interact with students, parents, staff and visitors.
  • Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.
  • Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time.
