Director of Social Impact Marketing

The Position:

The Director of Social Impact Marketing is a new position reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations. The position is ideal for an organized, process-oriented, entrepreneurial, and agile thinker with a passion for education and a proven track record of developing and scaling EdTech product marketing and sales programs. An in-depth knowledge of not-for-profits within the education industry (primarily K-12) and technology products is necessary, as well as the ability to craft directed marketing programs and plans. This role will help to define the education marketing and sales efforts for the school marketplace and cultivate support from philanthropic grantmakers. The Director of Social Impact Marketing will work to grow customer engagement, participation, and attract new grants and revenues. This position will oversee the marketing efforts of education writing programs and products designed for districts, schools, and educators, as well as related marketing materials for grant funders and sponsors.

Responsibilities:

Educational Marketing - Strategy and Content Creation

  • Create marketing and sales materials, including presentations, demo scripts, and product/program descriptions to demonstrate how the company’s educational products solve challenges for students, educators, and schools, and attract corporate, individual, and not-for-profit funders
  • Compile qualitative and quantitative data insights, including customer feedback and education market trends, to inform product development, marketing, and earned media efforts
  • Monitor competitive challenges and opportunities to enhance products, develop new products and improve customer communications
  • Enthusiastically contributing to the ever-expanding evolution of new education outreach to educators, schools, and districts, as well as supporting the company’s global product offerings
  • Coordinate with key team members (business development, operations, technology, and curriculum development) to ensure timely delivery and consistent messaging for educational programs and new features

Nonprofit Marketing - Organizational Strategy and Partnerships

  • Assist in the management of go-to-market planning, communications, and placement of new education products, working to support the VP of Business Development
  • Set and lead organizational brand and partnership marketing strategy, with a focus on potential corporate and foundation partners. Extend Write the World’s reach through strategic communications, brand activation, impact awareness, and storytelling. Shape organizational voice and messaging, working closely with the company’s leadership.
  • Set and measure key indicators of impact and performance to guide internal goals and external development and marketing success
  • Work in support of the VP of Business Development to develop strategic marketing campaigns and initiatives that drive donor solicitation and conversion
  • Work with the VP of Business Development to craft written materials designed to help donors and prospective donors understand and relate to the organization's mission
  • Oversee the writing and production of philanthropic marketing materials, including annual reports, “one-pager” documents, donor emails, targeted fundraising letters, and other necessary reports and written communications
  • Create fundraising-related marketing materials, such as weekly donor emails, brochures, and infographics

Qualifications:

  • College degree in business, marketing, education, or a related field
  • [7]+ years of product marketing experience at EdTech firms (ideally not-for-profit) serving K-12 cohort
  • Strong foundational knowledge of marketing strategy and best practices
  • Expertise in communications best practices across email, web, social media, SEO, and other digital channels
  • Proven experience conceptualizing, producing, and delivering storytelling content in both written and multimedia/visual forms (e.g., video, website articles, photo essays)
  • Experience with web content management systems, email communications, analytics, and reporting
  • Ability to drive marketing plans to succeed with measurable results
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the education marketing market, including its unique marketing and sales cycles
  • Track record of successfully creating overall strategic marketing programs and plans
  • Strong project management skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage and coordinate competing requests from cross-functional stakeholders
  • Knowledge of the education and school marketplace and bringing an educator voice to materials and programs
  • Excellent writing, communication, influencing, and presentation skills
  • Excellent knowledge of modern technologies, data analytics, and productivity tools
  • Demonstrated ability to collect, systemize, and communicate data/information from customers, staff, market, and research sources to enhance products and development plans
  • Strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills
  • Ability to provide consistent vision, passion, and strategy aligned with the company’s mission for education and, specifically, writing programs
  • Ability to work collegially with team members, including remotely.
