THEOPPORTUNITY

As a Directorof School Support (DSS), your coaching of school and system leaderswill empower them to enact change that sets teachers up for successin the classroom, thus ensuring students receive the educationalopportunities they deserve. You will leverage your past experienceas an instructional leader to quickly build trust within yourpartner schools, identify strengths and opportunities, and developaction plans that lead to breakthrough results for kids.You’ll be successful in influencing and motivating ourpartners because you thrive at marrying humility and assertivenessin everything you do. Your flexibility, team first approach, andcommitment to equity will be infectious to everyone you interactwith, whether it’s a CAO of a school system, a principal ofone of your partner schools, or another DSS on yourteam.

In 2016, ANet launched operations in the West with schools in theBay Area and in 2017, the region expanded its reach to servingschools across the state of Nevada. Currently the team partnerswith over 75 district and charter schools throughout the West, including keysystem partnerships in Nevada (Clark County and rural districts)and within the Bay Area and Los Angeles. In the 2019-20 schoolyear, the team will also expand its reach to serving schools inStockton, CA.

The Directorof School Support will report directly to the ExecutiveDirector, California & Nevada andwill work closely with the California and Nevada Network teamswhile also collaborating regularly with ANet national teams andpeer coaches in other regions.

WHATYOU’LL DO

Partner with and coach school leaders to strengthen instruction andincrease student achievement

Serve as aninstructional leadership coach for school leaders, inspiring andmotivating teams, supporting school-wide change management, andbuilding expertise in standards-based and data-driven instructionand teacher development

Developschool leaders and teachers on effective use of real-time data fromthe ANet interim assessments to target student misunderstandings,to improve teacher practice, and to continually deepenunderstanding of the rigor of the Common Core standards

Train andcoach school leaders and teachers on effective backwards planningusing state standards, complex texts, and curricula to achievestudent mastery of grade-level content

Analyzestudent data and use research-based practices to inform anindividualized strategy for coaching each school

Serve as aleadership coach for school leaders, partnering with them toovercome barriers to successful data-driven instruction andincreased student achievement, including how to develop andleverage school-wide practices and structures to build a culture ofachievement that accelerates student impact

Engage in agradual release of support to build some schools’independence with teacher development, first by modeling meetingfacilitation, then observing and providing coaching and feedback toleaders on their facilitation

Support literacy, math, and leadership professionaldevelopment

Inpartnership with internal teams, customize core sessions to meetpartner needs for professional learning

Traveling toprovide in person facilitation support for professional learningevents alongside other members of the regional team (up to20%)

Develop a strong network of ANet schools

Connectschool leaders with other schools to facilitate best practicesharing

Design andlead professional development sessions for groups of school leadersand teachers

Support theregional leadership in growing the Network by sustaining currentschool partners and fostering new partnerships

Support internal ANet strength and growth

Developtools, coaching strategies, and innovative ideas for theorganization that improve our ability to coach schools

Serve ininternal ANet leadership roles, which could include recruiting andhiring, network event coordination, sales, professional developmentplanning and facilitation, and strategy development

You are a learner. Youdon’t shy away from new or ambiguous situations, but ratherdive right in and seek out opportunities to continuously improveyour skills and expand your impact on kids, while learning fromthose around you.

Ideal candidates may also demonstrate the following

preferred qualifications:

You bring familiarity implementing the Common Core instructionalshifts, as teacher and/or as an instructional coach, specificallyin math and/or ELA

You have prior experience coaching teams, leading professionaldevelopment, and/or managing programs at adistrict/CMO-level

You bring prior experience working within, and/or knowledgeof, the education landscape within Nevada
