As a Directorof School Support (DSS), your coaching of school and system leaderswill empower them to enact change that sets teachers up for successin the classroom, thus ensuring students receive the educationalopportunities they deserve. You will leverage your past experienceas an instructional leader to quickly build trust within yourpartner schools, identify strengths and opportunities, and developaction plans that lead to breakthrough results for kids. You'll besuccessful in influencing and motivating our partners because youthrive at marrying humility and assertiveness in everything you do.Your flexibility, team first approach, and commitment to equitywill be infectious to everyone you interact with, whether it's aCAO of a school system, a principal of one of your partner schools,or another DSS on your team.

This DSS willwork as part of our Central WestRegion.The Minnesotapartnerships represent over 20schools in a growingportfolio aroundMinneapolis and St. Paul.The region -spanning midwestern states - is comprised of a mix of districtschools, public charter schools, and independent schools allowingleaders from multiple school models to come together under a commonpurpose, and to learn and grow for the benefit of the students theyserve. Over the next several years the network team will continueto help schools achieve student growth, while increasing impact bygrowing the number of schools in the network and expanding supportto reach district and CMO leadership in the metro area as well asexploring support to nearby states and districts.Reporting tothe Managing Director of Minnesota, MissouriNetwork, thisindividual will also work in a highly collaborative, supportive,and innovative fashion with the Illinois-based team andMN-based director of school support, as well as with peer coachesacross ANet's other Networks and national teams.


Partner with and coach school leaders to strengthen instruction andincrease student achievement

Serve as aninstructional leadership coach for school leaders, inspiring andmotivating teams, supporting school-wide change management, andbuilding expertise in standards-based and data-driven instructionand teacher development

Train andcoach school leaders and teachers on effective backwards planningusing state standards, complex texts, and curricula to achievestudent mastery of grade-level content

Developschool leaders and teachers on effective use of data from interimassessments to target student misunderstandings and improve teacherpractice

Analyzestudent data and use research-based practices to inform anindividualized strategy for coaching each school

Build andmaintain strong relationships with school leaders and teachers thatestablish ANet as a key partner in increasing studentachievement

Engage in agradual release of support to build some schools' independence withteacher development, first by modeling meeting facilitation, thenobserving and providing coaching and feedback to leaders on theirfacilitation

Develop a strong network of ANet schools

Connectschool leaders with other schools to facilitate best practicesharing

Design andlead professional development sessions for groups of school leadersand teachers

Support theLouisiana Executive Director in growing the Network by sustainingcurrent school partners and fostering new partnerships

Support internal ANet strength and growth

Developtools, coaching strategies, and innovative ideas for theorganization that improve our ability to coach schools

Serve ininternal ANet leadership roles, which could include recruiting andhiring, anti-racist leadership, network event coordination, sales,professional development planning and facilitation, and strategydevelopment


In order tobe successful in this role, candidates must demonstratethe following:

You bring prior experience managing or coaching other adults(e.g. schoolleadership, instructional coaching, etc.) and know how to developand motivate others to drive results, while balancing humility andassertiveness. Youthrive off building strong relationships, especially when it comesto building trust and credibility quickly.

You are a learner. You don't shyaway from new or ambiguous situations, but rather dive right in andseek out opportunities to continuously improve your skills andexpand your impact on kids, while learning from those aroundyou.

You draw others in. Your abilityto read and respond to unspoken and implicit cues, and yourengaging presentation skills leave others energized and wanting toknow more.

You are excited to partner with schools and systems across the Regionand within your portfolio and are therefore willing to travel and have access to a vehicle inorder to do so (mileage will be reimbursed for drives to partnersand a rental car or flight will be provided for longertrips). You are also willing to travel to other cities within our region,and when needed, to remotely coach long distancepartners.

Ideal candidates may also demonstrate the followingpreferredqualifications:

You haveexperience within, and/or knowledge of, the education landscape inMinnesota

You bringfamiliarity implementing the Common Core instructional shifts, asteacher and/or asan instructional coach, specifically in math and/or ELA

You have prior experience coaching teams, leading professionaldevelopment, and/or managing programs at adistrict/CMO-level
