Director of Programs

Project Invent - Palo Alto, California - Full time

Project Invent ( is a national nonprofit empowering high school students across the country to invent technologies for social impact. We train teachers to lead students through identifying real problems in their communities and inventing impactful solutions. At the end of the year, students pitch their inventions to investors and tech leaders at our Demo Day event.

In the past year, we've grown from two schools to 30 across the country. We’re small, scrappy, and high impact. You will be the first official hire of Project Invent, which means you’re jumping in from Day 1. As the Director of Programs, your role will be to manage everything that goes into creating a great Project Invent experience for our teams. The ideal candidate enjoys fast-paced work environments and wearing multiple hats. You will be doing everything from visiting schools to managing the digital team platform to putting together the annual Demo Day event.

Our Director of Programs will be headquartered at our Palo Alto, CA office. This position is a full-time, salaried position for a candidate excited about growing a small, high-impact nonprofit startup into a leading organization in the education space.

What we're looking for...

  • Committed to empowering students to be creative, resilient, empathetic problem solvers
  • Significant experience in operations and youth programs to make big decisions from the get-go
  • Past experience with planning & executing large events
  • Past experience as an educator is a plus
  • Past experience as an engineer or designer is a plus
  • Excited about working on something early stage
  • Passionate about innovative education
  • Enjoys coming up with new ideas and making them happen
  • A go-getter, ideas person, and executor

Roles & Responsibilities…

  • Envision and plan the long-term growth of the Project Invent program
  • Plan and execute Demo Day, our annual pitch event for all teams
  • Support existing teams and recruit new ones
  • Manage the digital team platform and communications with teams
  • Coordinate teacher advisors who support our teachers via monthly calls
  • Coordinate regional workshops and events across the country
  • Work directly with the Executive Director to pilot new initiatives that help us increase our student diversity, program accessibility, and measurable impact
