The Director of Program Development will be responsible for developing and managing pilots of new ways of bringing families and educators together to help children read on grade level by 4th grade. The Director of Program Development will report to the Sr Director, Innovation and Continuous Improvement and work as part of the Innovation and Improvement team at Springboard. Here are your priorities in the first year:

  • Establish relationships with schools/districts/networks, educators, and families to participate in 2022 pilots

Here are your responsibilities within and beyond the first year:

  • Manage pilots of programs and products
    • Build and manage a team of seasonal and full-time staff to run pilots with external partners such as schools, CBOs, and families.
    • Build relationships with external stakeholders who are eager and willing to engage in pilots (e.g. schools, districts, educators, and families).
    • Oversee each stage of the pilot process, ensuring that planning, implementation, learning, and sharing results happen to timeline and within organizational asana norms.
    • Collaborate closely with the Director of Design Research on managing the handoff of prototypes into pilots
    • Identify roadblocks and opportunities to improve the quality of build-measure-learn cycles within pilots, including criteria for pivoting or persisting based on learnings. Collaborate with the Sr Director, Innovation and Continuous Improvement, to communicate and implement changes.
    • Create and maintain a process for prioritizing, staffing and sequencing multiple prototypes that are ready to proceed to piloting. Communicate decisions about how pilots are being sequenced in a way that builds buy-in from colleagues.
    • In collaboration with the innovation and improvement team, add to and maintain a foundational knowledge base about our stakeholders.
  • Share pilot results
    • Summarize the results of pilots in ways that make the learnings clear to anyone in the organization, regardless of their background. The length and medium of these summaries could vary from short project updates to multi-page documents, depending on the scope of the pilot and the intended audience.
    • Make recommendations on when to persist or pivot with programs and products that are in the piloting stage, and follow clear stage gates to recommend when pilots are ready to leave piloting and become a standard offering.
    • Focus on the actionable results of the research, and collaborate with the Sr Director of Innovation and Continuous Improvement to ensure any form of reporting explicitly names next steps to incorporate the learnings into our offerings
    • Ensure effective handoff of learnings into building changes into our offerings, when applicable, by collaborating with the IST Project Manager and applicable Learning Designers.
  • Collaborate to integrate new programs, products, and learnings across teams and departments
    • Collaborate closely with colleagues across the Impact Strategy department to transition successful pilots into standard offerings.
    • Collaborate with Sr Learning Designers and Sr Program Designers as they build the insights from pilots into clear and overall effective user experiences within our offerings.
    • Periodically participate in improvement projects by helping to define problems and ideate, prototype, and test solutions in collaboration with the Continuous Improvement Associate and Sr Director of Innovation and Continuous Improvement, as needed.

What you offer us

Here are qualifications we expect the right candidate to have:

  • Program management: At least 3 years of relevant experience that will equip you to plan for and manage both the logistics and learning involved in implementing full pilots of new programs, products, and services. You are prepared to run processes in ways that ensure all those participating in the pilot experience value, whether or not the new program/product is one that becomes a standard offering.
  • People management: At least 2 years of relevant experience cultivating people to support their growth and development and managing work to ensure completion to deadline and expectations.
  • Rapid learning: You exhibit a probing mind and achieve penetrating insights. You run processes in ways that lead to actionable insights about whether to pivot or persist with new designs. You may be experienced with methods like lean impact, human-centered design, or other structured forms of rapid and experiential learning about how to create value and impact for stakeholders.
  • Attention to detail: Does not let important details slip through the cracks or derail a project.
  • Persistence: Demonstrates tenacity and willingness to go the distance to get something done
  • Education/work experience: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required, Master’s or equivalent work specialization preferred

It would also be nice if:

  • You have experience working in or with preK and/or elementary education environments as a teacher, community liaison, or member of a community-based organization doing academic and/or family oriented OST programming.
  • You have experience in, or have studied, best practices in family engagement and/or the science of reading.
  • You speak Spanish.

While this description is meant to provide an overview of the responsibilities of the Director of Program Development, we are seeking candidates who demonstrate flexibility and can adapt to evolving needs in an entrepreneurial environment.

This is a full-time, exempt position offering benefits and a salary within the range of $80,000-$85,000, commensurate with Springboard Collaborative's Director-level l compensation band.

Location and travel

Springboard Collaborative’s headquarter office is in Philadelphia, PA. Applications are welcome from any location, preference will be given to candidates who live in the mid-atlantic area (D.C, Philadelphia, New Jersey, d New York City), especially those who are able to commute to Philadelphia. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all Springboard Collaborative offices are closed for the time being.

This role entails up to 25% travel annually to supervise pilots happening outside your home city, when applicable.
