About the PositionThe Director of Professional and Lifelong Learning is responsible for leading a dynamic suite of work focused on providing educators with engaging and powerful professional learning experiences. Different initiatives are designed to advance teaching practice or support adults with foundational and workforce learning opportunities. The portfolio includes Digital Promise’s educator micro-credentials initiative, the development of a classroom based coaching program and our adult learning work. The Director will provide leadership and work collaboratively across the organization. This is an exciting opportunity to play an integral role in a national organization that leverages technology and research in support of powerful and authentic opportunities to learn.

The ideal candidate will have a passion for education, deeply understand the power of technology and be grounded in research. Additionally, an ability to see the big picture and design and implement innovative solutions that solve big education challenges will be paramount to success. Stellar systems thinking, relationship building and communication skills are crucial.


  • Manage and support a team of high-performing people to design and complete project deliverables and ensure the success of our professional and lifelong learning initiatives.
  • Build partnerships with prominent workforce and professional development organizations, educator networks, institutions of higher education and others; formalize collaborations.
  • Provide thought leadership on workforce and professional learning and forward the national conversation about competency-based systems for educators and adult learners.
  • Engage school, district, and state leaders to identify and address state and local policy opportunities and challenges associated with workforce and professional learning.
  • Lead an Advisory Board of thought leaders and practitioners to gather insight and guidance.
  • Design, host, and implement convenings of stakeholders.
  • Represent Digital Promise including through presentations at national conferences and writing and publishing.
  • Write grant proposals, meet deadlines and manage relationships with corporate and foundation funders.


  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree in education, policy, or related areas preferred
  • 12+ years of experience in education with growing responsibility
  • Demonstrated outstanding influencing skills with a variety of organizations, K12, higher education and adult learning stakeholders.
  • Established creative and user centered design skills for solving challenges
  • Experience with managing a high performing and diverse team
  • Strong and inspiring interpersonal, oral and written communication and presentation skills.
  • Excellent relationship skills with both online and face to face interactions.
  • Demonstrated diplomacy and professionalism.
  • Stellar judgment, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Exceptional project management skills
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and manage competing tasks, deadlines, requirements, and decisions.

CompensationSalary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
