Position Overview

We believe that critical thinking is essential for the current and future success of our greatest resource, our children. Therefore, each product must not only support rigorous educational standards, it must transform students into critical thinkers. Product management is responsible of the cross-functional management of products through their entire lifecycle. Using a wealth of industry and market experience, the team determines product strategy to drive student achievement, maximize profitability, and respond to competition. The Director of Product Management oversees product strategy and management for all Mentoring Minds products. This role is incredibly strategic, focused on speed and scale to continue the momentum of Mentoring Minds as trusted source of educational products.

The Director of Product Management is a key role within the Company and therefore provides leadership not only for the functional area of Product Management, but also for the Company as a whole.

Essential Functions

The following is a list of essential functions, which may be subject to change at any time with or without notice. 

  • Lead collaboration across functional areas to develop product strategy.
  • Develop and own a high impact, growth driving product roadmap for the Company that balances long-term growth, short-term opportunities, platform and content stability, and rapid expansion of product capabilities.
  • Deeply understand our existing customers, future customers, our product, and our business strategies.
  • Develop comprehensive measures of product performance to determine product direction and provide ongoing analysis and evaluation of the product portfolio.
  • Manage the day-to-day product development lifecycle from end-to-end—from research, proposition creation, user experience, development, launch and validation.
  • Support the development of product pricing and competitive positioning.
  • Drive the validation of market segments.
  • Continue development of our Critical Thinking system and how it integrates in to all of our products.
  • Lead and nurture the Product Management team in becoming thought leaders in the ever-changing education market.
  • Ability to hire, coach, mentor, and manage a team of high potential talent.
  • Provide feedback on your team’s performance, helping to develop clear career goals, growth opportunities, and action plans on how to achieve them.
  • Communicate clearly and distinctly, both verbally and in writing, to peers and business stakeholders.
  • Evaluate and implement best-in-class processes, tools, and practices to promote efficiency and growth.
  • Collaborates with peers in other functional areas of the organization.
  • Provides sound financial management of budgets, including ongoing analysis of consulting contracts.
  • Participates in short- and long-term strategic planning for the company.
  • Performing other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications

  • Genuine demonstration of the Mentoring Minds’ core values of Humble, Hungry, and Smart.
  • 5+ year's product management experience.
  • 7+ years leading high-performance teams.
  • Ability to weigh completing priorities, manage trade-offs, and evaluate new ideas with stakeholders, driving to consensus while maintaining a clear focus on strategic business goals.
  • Strong leadership, management, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience launching new products in competitive markets.
  • Demonstrable experience of a customer-focused approach to user experience across various approaches including print, digital, and mobile.
  • Experience of Agile methodologies and leading Agile teams in product delivery.
  • Ability and willingness to dive in and work hands on where needed to keep the product strategy on track.
  • A deep understanding of product management processes and methodologies, as well as product planning tools such as Jira, Aha! Etc.
  • Ability to work closely with cross-functional teams, executives and representatives across the stakeholder groups. Strong written and verbal skills essential in order to clearly and succinctly communicate a compelling vision.
