Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School is seeking a Director of Personalized Learning for its Lasallian Catholic, co-educational, secondary school to open in the summer of 2018 on the campus formerly home to Saint Elizabeth High School. The school is sponsored by the De La Salle Christian Brothers, District of San Francisco New Orleans.

The school will use the Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) modeled after the successful programs at 32 Cristo Rey Network schools. All students are required to complete a college preparatory curriculum and participate in the Work Study Program. Under the Corporate Work Study Program, each student is employed five days per month by a local business or community agency to provide tuition assistance and complement the school’s on-site curricular program. The school is currently participating in the Replication Process of the Cristo Rey Network.

Cristo Rey De La Salle East Bay High School, St. Elizabeth Campus, is a diverse, Lasallian Catholic learning community that educates young people of limited economic means to become men and women of faith, purpose, and service. A rigorous and personalized college preparatory curriculum integrated with a corporate work study experience prepares students to succeed in college and in life.

Anticipated Start Date

The Director of Personalized Learning is expected to participate in Saturday sessions beginning in March to prepare for the summer program and academic school year. She/He will also be expected to co-direct, support, and teach during the Alpha Summer Institute from July 5, through July 27, 2018. The position is expected to begin full time in June 1, 2018.

Purpose

The Director of Personalized learning plays an integral role in the school’s educational program. As the facilitator of both student and teacher learning, candidates must demonstrate a clear vision for personalized learning and a deep understanding of relevant educational research and best practices. The Director of Personalized Learning works closely with the Principal and Assistant Principal of Academics and is an integral member of the leadership team.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Students:

Personalizes student learning to meet student needs

Facilitates data-driven, real-time feedback

Allows multiple opportunities for students to show mastery through performance-based assessments

Leverages performance-based formative assessments for long-term and short-term planning

Prioritizes mastery of rigorous standards aligned to college & life readiness

Develops and implements a master schedule that maximizes student and teacher effectiveness

Teachers:

Maintains an effective human capital strategy aligned with school model and priorities

In collaboration with the Principal and Assistant Principal, establishes and maintains consistent, high-quality systems for sourcing and selecting teachers and staff Individualized professional development that cultivates teachers’ strengths and meets school needs and priorities

Employs a fair and equitable teacher evaluation process

Parents and Other Stakeholders:

Develops and employs a mastery-based system for communicating student achievement to students, parents, the Board, funders, and colleges

Empowers and supports students through key transitions into and beyond college

Highlights explicit links between future academic and career pathways and current learning

Ensures transparency regarding student status and progress toward graduation for students and parents/guardians

Qualifications

Master’s Degree in Education and/or Educational Leadership/ Educational Technology

At least 5 years teaching in a high school

Experience in a high school leadership position

Familiarity with Personalized Learning and Summit Schools a plus, but not required

Spanish fluency preferred but not required (speaking, reading and writing)

Strong written and communication skills; detail oriented; team player; ability to multi-task in fast paced environment

Understands and embraces cultural backgrounds of students and families

Commitment to Lasallian Catholic Values of the school and the mission of the Cristo Rey Network and model

Relentless focus on results, high level accountability, and willingness to do “whatever it takes”

Candidate must be adept at building rapport and trust with people from diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including underrepresented urban youth and first-generation college students

Compensation

Full-time, year-round position with competitive salary, benefits, and paid vacation

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

Regularly interact with students, parents, staff and visitors.

Be able to occasionally lift up to 30 lbs.

Work at a desk and computer screen for extended periods of time.
