Location Flexible, Full-time

Astra Nova School is looking for an erudite and creative teacher who is passionate about understanding the world around us through a historical lens. The ideal candidate will be someone who is both learned and driven to learn, and who enjoys working with young students. This teacher would design and implement a curriculum that allows students to acquire knowledge and insight and encourages them to create a better future for all people.

Astra Nova School is an online middle school for motivated students between the ages of 10 and 14. It was co-founded by the team who formerly ran Ad Astra School on the SpaceX campus in Hawthorne, CA. We design classes, projects, and experiences that inspire students to embrace complexity and operate with a sense of possibility.

Essential Job Functions

• Preparing and delivering lessons online, using engaging teaching techniques
• Facilitating a classroom setting that encourages participation and critical thinking
• Evaluating students’ performance
• Designing curriculum and content
• Attending meetings with parents, teachers, and administrators

Preferred Skills & Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience teaching at the middle school, high school, or university level
• Master’s Degree in history, politics, or an equivalent field
• Comfort working virtually and using relevant software
• Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and the school management
• Empathy and responsiveness to students’ needs
• Deep respect for inclusion and diversity
• Authorization to work in the United States
• Ability to clear required background check
