What You'll Do:

Discovery Education is searching for a skilled, experienced, strategic, and collaborative Director of Mathematics to drive the enhancement and expansion of the award-winning and internationally recognized Math TechbookTM.

The Director is responsible for leading a team of math educators who build industry-leading high-quality print and digital mathematics content for Discovery Education products. The ideal candidate will employ knowledge and understanding of sound mathematical reasoning, current research, and effective pedagogical practices, with the intent of ensuring that Discovery Education offers services of the highest educational quality. The Director will facilitate the development and enhancement of content that currently appears in secondary school courses for grades 6-8 and high school, as well as help to set a vision and create content for a future elementary curriculum.

The Director will also serve in an externally-facing role, meeting with teachers, district leaders, and partner organizations, as well as providing support to the Discovery Education partnerships and implementation teams to assist with conference presentations, state adoptions, requests for proposals, and sales. The Director will collaborate closely with the other members of the Digital Instruction Group and independent contractors to develop digital products and services that meet the educational and business needs of the company. The preferred candidate will have a degree in mathematics or mathematics education, experience teaching mathematics in K-12, and experience developing, as well as leading the development, of curriculum.

  • Ensure the alignment of products and curriculum to national, state, and district standards.
  • Lead the writing of mathematics content, product development, and quality assurance for inclusion in Discovery Education products.
  • Facilitate the development of support materials for state curriculum adoption processes and requests for proposal.
  • Utilize evidence-based practices in the writing of curriculum and the development of Math TechbookTM.
  • Build collaborative relationships, while leading the development of curriculum, with employees, independent contractors, vendors, and organization partners to ensure adherence to DE standards for quality and to ensure on-time delivery. Design effective training that prepares employees, vendors, and independent contractors to contribute to content development efforts.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the Discovery Education mathematics, product development, assessment, editorial, systems engineering, sales, marketing, corporate education partnerships, professional development, and partnership experience teams to ensure the highest quality experience for every client.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with clients to introduce, orient, and implement the use of Discovery Education mathematics products and other Discovery Education services with mathematics teachers.
  • Facilitate ongoing school support for current Discovery Education product users related to mathematics content and troubleshoot challenges as needed.
  • Continue to improve mathematics and pedagogical knowledge and skills through participation in professional growth opportunities as well as researching trends and identification of evidence-based practices.
  • Participate in conferences and other public speaking engagements as the company’s lead representative of the Math TechbookTM.
  • Other duties assigned as business needs dictate.

Who You Are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in mathematics, math education, or an equivalent combination of skills, training, and experience is required; master’s degree or doctorate preferred
  • 3+ years’ experience in mathematics curriculum development
  • 3+ years’ experience with professional learning related to state and national mathematics standards
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Knowledge and experience in digital and blended instruction
  • Experience in the development and implementation of digital education materials or products specific to mathematics
  • Must have legal right to work in the United States
