Director of Marketing

Whetstone Education - New Orleans, Louisiana or Remote - Full time

The Role

Whetstone is seeking a highly motivated strategic thinker and cross-functional marketer to join its leadership team. The Director of Marketing will be dedicated to scaling our business, overseeing all aspects of marketing including brand, growth, and digital. This role will be charged with developing and executing a marketing strategy to drive the company to and through its next phase of growth. The candidate should be a rockstar in marketing operations – building & implementing from the ground up. This role will be responsible for both revenue- and awareness- driving programs that build our audience and develop long-lasting channels that drive the business. This role reports to the CEO.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the CEO and leadership to develop positioning and strategies to grow awareness and drive revenue. Help lead go-to-market for future products and campaigns.
  • Lead the development of programs, positioning, and audience strategies to drive brand awareness.
  • Responsible for the development and management of Whetstone’s community initiatives (social, content marketing, influencer relations, etc.).
  • Spearhead Whetstone’s event marketing arm in order to meaningfully engage with the education community and develop authentic advocacy for the brand.
  • Build world-class digital & performance marketing capabilities (SEM, SEO, Social, etc.)
  • Responsible for establishing Whetstone’s credibility in the marketplace. Work with PR and channel partners to get our product in the right hands.
  • Create elevated and educational programming and tools to drive both outbound and inbound sales processes.
  • Leverage Whetstone's market position, intellectual property, and strategic relationships to develop thought leadership content and strategy tied to awareness/revenue.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of marketing experience with at least 3 years leading and managing a team.
  • Experience in the education industry, building innovative brands, and leading go-to-market initiatives.
  • Experience with annual subscription revenue models, ideally SaaS tech.
  • Fluency in digital marketing, PR, product and partnership marketing.
  • All-around hustler: Keen ability to balance both strategy and execution. Highly efficient executer comfortable with a startup environment.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate and build relationships and strategic partnerships (internally and externally).
  • Analytical: Comfort with metrics-driven approach and dedication to delivering and effectively communicating ROI.
  • Team player: Ability to work in a collaborative, cross-functional organization.
  • An obsession with creating impactful, relevant and elevated educational materials and experiences for customers.
  • Curious and Ambitious: On top of and interested in industry trends and overall marketplace evolution. Ability to drive action and decision-making from curiosity and insight.
